I have waited a while to post this because I wanted time to make an educated post. I have played several Taylor guitars over the last several years some what in the pursuit of a new acoustic guitar. Except for my GS Mini, and it fits a certain need, I haven't just been over the top on Taylor's. They were good guitars but none of them impressed me enough to make me stack up the green required to buy one.
I have been reading a lot about how Bob Taylor has let Andy Powers, who is a great picker and young master luthier, have free rein to revisit all the different lines that Taylor makes and make changes/improvements to them. He took the 800 series and thined the top, bracing and finish resulting in more movement of the guitar.
I tried my first one if these new models in April of 2014 and was totally blown away. I didn't have enough resources to buy at the time but could not get it off my mind. The main thing that really impressed me is I have tried several different ones at multiple music stores and they have all felt great.
Fast forward to the Dallas Guitar Festival this past April. A buddy went with me to the show and I tried several of the 814CE models at different booths and was thoroughly impressed by all of them. However, the Taylor display had one that was set up perfectly and this particular guitar "spoke" to me and I kept going back to this one. Taylor won't sell direct at shows but go through their dealers in attendance at the show. They hooked me up with Fuller's Vintage Guitars out of Houston and the owner and his son made me a great deal on the guitar. Excellent people to do business with.
I have now had time to play this guitar, I can't put it down, and it is truly one of the best playing/ sounding guitars I've ever played. This new take on the 800 series is definitely worth looking into if you are in the market for an acoustic guitar.

Congrats on a very nice guitar. I have a 2012 814ce, and it's great, but having read the reviews I've been wondering about the revamped model, and have tried a few. The result is that I won't be selling mine anytime soon, but if I didn't already have it I'd be seriously considering the new one. You have to admire Taylor for taking the plunge and redesigning their flagship model, and their customer service is excellent. Enjoy your new purchase!

Congrats! That's the best acoustic I've ever played by far...Id love to have one, I just don't play enough acoustic to justify the cost.

I'm playing more 2 and 3 piece gigs and didn't have a really good acoustic so I felt like the stars aligned on this guitar for price and playability so I took the plunge. It is a great sounding/playing axe. I can only imagine what it will be like as it ages.
