Can I put the Preferred Series 7189 power tubes in my Rx Jr? I believe they are what the Zwreck uses also? I think I'm going with a Tesla Ef86. Then I just need to decide what to use for the two 12ax7s. And rectifier tube? Most people say no need to replace it.

What did you use for your preamp tubes?

RX JR: and pretty much the same in my RX ES too.
Good 12ax7 in V1(I like a NOS 5751 for more headroom and less drive)... but more drive use a good high output 12AX7 (a NOS 12AX7 would be sweet here but not needed).
NOS ef-86 in V2 (I prefer the dario mini watt for ALL my ef-86)
V3 I usually use a Sovtek 12AX7 LPS which is a great current production tube for V3
rectifier NOS 5Y3 (any will do and you can still get these for reasonable prices (if you can find a NOS Bendix 5Y3 GET it)
I use JJ el-84's.... EH's are fine too with NO need to go NOS with the el-84 as you will go through power tubes with heavy usage,
but... if you can spring for those 7025's they are worth every penny and probably last a bit longer than current production el-84's.
BTW, Doc tweaks his amps so if you use mostly current production tubes of good quality then it should sound just fine.

Anyone no where you can get one? I hear the Tesla is good and they are easy to find!

Any NOS EF-86 will do...
NOS Tesla, Telefunken, Amperex, Mullard...
May want to get a couple and try em to see which you like the best as each will be a bit different... I think I also have a telefunken along with a Bugleboy with w few dario's I have stashed for a rainy day.
Seems like I also really liked the Telefunken... over the Mullard I used to have.
The Dario was kinda a middle of the road between these if I remember correctly as that was YEARS ago now...

I popped off my back screen today and here is what I have for Tubes. 2 groove tube El 84s. JJ EF806, 2-JJ 12Ax7. The rectifier tube looks like a GE brand. I'm thinking I'm just going to replace the 2 power tubes with the preferred series tubes and replace the JJ EF806 with a Tesla EF86. I'm prob just going to stick with the JJ preamp ECC83s? One thought was to put a 5751 in v1 and a Tung Sol in v3?

ive owned bout 10 z's over the years, im not really a horder, but i would buy expensive nos tubes, ef86s etc,, then just decided to use a jj 806, and in live situations ic ant tell any difference.(so i hav elots of nos tubes in the closet) doc likes EH right now, prbably some issue about getting tubes in bulk at a good price. frankly after 25 years of monkeying around with amps and tubes i have come to the conclusion that i am going to use new production tubes, justt find the right ones, buy with a warranty, etc., of course i am not the guy that is going to spend more money on a fancy attenuator than thier amp. use jj's mostly. cheers, have fun
