So I picked up a very nice used RX Jr head recently. I ordered a matching 1x12 cab and installed a WGS Et-65. I used the amp at band practice the other day. My fellow other guitar player plays a RX Es with a 2-12 Greenbacks. His sound was just superior to mine. We did some ab ing of our rigs switching the cabs heads etc.... He just had his head retubed too. It wasn't so much the cab, but more the head. My cab really sounded pretty good with his head too. So here our my options: Sell the Rx Jr head and get a used Zwreck head? Retube my Rx Jr because i have no idea about the tube life and that may help a lot? I've checked into tubes and that's going to run me about $200.00 Looking at Tangram El 84's, Tesla Ef86 and Mullard reissue 12 Ax7s. Probably won't change rectifier tube. Any thoughts? I know I won't ever get the head room he has but it just seemed like there should not be that much difference in those two heads in my opinion. I really have liked the you tube videos on the Zwreck head.

I would just go with new power tubes first, pre amps generally do not "get tired" like power tubes, they just die. I noticed a big change when my Maz gets a fresh set of EL's.

I would look at a different rectifier tube as well.
I played a Z Wreck for the first time the other day, I really just plugged in and played at low volumes at True Tone in Santa Monica. Didn't want to get into the intro of Enter Sandman.
It has a super feel just being hooked into it.
Just rambling
