Would it be awesome, or what? Same amp, but with 4 EL84s instead of two--maybe with a half-power switch? I love this amp.

The M12 senior would be the stangray. Very similar amps. Both have the ef86 front end.

I wish Doc would make a 15 watt amp to sit in between all the others. We have 8 watts, 12, 18 and up but no 15 watter. Doc, any chances of making a 15 in the future?

I think the ghia is actually 15.

Can't remember where, but I swear I've seen the Rx Jr. listed at 15 W.

Oh yeah. It's a very pedal friendly amp.

M12 and Stangray are very different sounding, imho. my solution: fryette power station
i also wish i could just get the M12 in a 4xEL84, but i think the M12 transformer is made for 2xEL84 and has a lot to do with the feel and sound of the M12

Consider an Rx ES. Different from an M12 and its kin because the EF86 is V2 rather than V1. It's very loud and has plenty of clean volume. Also has lo and hi inputs, giving the flexibility that the M12 offers via its switch.

Yea, the StangRay would be the closet thing to a bigger M12. The Ray has more chime and brilliance on tap and just sounds bigger overall because it is.
Stock, the M12 is somewhat sweet and mild, which you'd want in a pedal amp. The Ray is authoritative, punchy, and in your face.

And I'll add that the Ray's lowend is HUGE...

And what about the KT45? I feel like i've seen it referred to as the "bigger, badder" M12. Ef86 front end, subtractive and additive EQ, etc. Granted, el34 instead of el84, but still...

That's the main reason I didn't list the KT was different power tubes altogether. But may be close like you said.

I think what I'd like to see more than a higher powered M12 is an M12 with a Drive Knob AND Reverb. Maybe that takes some of the magic away, but I'd love a low wattage amp with the ability to run pedals and drive the preamp at the same time. I know the Maz 8 is pretty much what I'm talking about, but I prefer the sound of the M12.

The Ray is nothing like the M12 IMO. I've owned both...the Ray is like the best AC30 you'll ever play, lots of chime, great straight in tone, and like all AC30'S it sucks with pretty much every drive/fuzz pedal. I find the M12 kind of bland by comparison, but it's a pedal eating monster, that's how you get the best tones out of it.

couple of ideas if you need more of what the M12 offers: 1. run it with an extension cab, you will definitely push more air 2. hit the front end hard with a great clean boost. you will get more out of the other end 3. when you run an OD, fuzz or distortion try turning the pedals volume all the way up and then add in gain as you need to.
I run my M12 on the low setting with volume about noon through a 1x12 cab and frankly it can get so loud you can hardly stand to be in the room with it.

my .02...
and it's been a while since I played one, but the amp that comes closest to being a M12 Sr to me would be a 2nd generation original Mazerati (V2)... great big beautiful bold clean amp.
To me the M12 is different (but similar) to the Ray... as is different than the Z wreck... I've always said it kinda sits somewhere between those two... especially the ray, has this somewhat specific mid thing and pronounced low end... Z wreck has way more drive but i swear the M12 has some similar feel (comfort setting) going on.
Current production...
KT 45 does actually have some (a lot) of similarities to be a bigger version M12... I would think if you love the M12 and needed something a lot louder... I think you'd absolutely LOVE a KT 45.
RX ES was mentioned, again also a lot of similarities... and a great amp, I think with a 5751 in V1 and the low input OD off you could coax louder M12 tones all night long... another great amp.
Mazerati V2 to me would be the closest if you could find one.
