I usually run my KT-45 with a 2x12 cab with Eminence Legend V128's. Great speakers, but they're 120 watts each. They do have great midrange. Checking to see if anyone has suggestions for speakers..

I'm no expert, but I run my KT into a 2x12 open back cabinet with two Vin30s.

What do you want different? Earlier break up. I know it depends on the cone..

Use two lower wattage speaker, say, 25 to 40 watts.
That should break up pretty quickly.

What about this Legend... Legend 1028. They are 35 watts each....but I think the ones you have break up early. At least with my Ghia they did...the KT stays cleaner as its design focus so maybe that's it....what about Ceramic Weber Blue Dog...you can get them in a variety of wattage and they break up early to.

The KT does stay clean way up the knobs, so I would say go for this.
Or get a different Z.

Believe it or not, a KT into a pair of alnico blues sounds unreal. Yes, you have to avoid cranking it or you will pop some very pricey speakers.

Weber Blue Dog ceramic is an excellent choice. Choose your wattage. They also sound very good with the KT - not all speakers will. The KT is designed to be clean almost all the way up. So, you may also need a good attenuator. I've heard great things about the stand alone unit made by Tone King amps. I tried a Tone King amp with that attenuator built in - it worked great. I think it's called the Iron Man. You can also use tubes with lower numbers (I forget the term for that). They will bring the SPL down a little. My opinion is you should use all means at your disposal (as long as you don't compromise the tone quality) because it's a loud amp and the break-up is fantastic once you crank it. If you buy new speakers give them time to break in. Good luck.

It's a sweet sound. If you want the KT to sound more Hiwatt-ish, more like classic Who, you'll need a ceramic speaker for more punch and a bigger, tighter bottom end.

FWIW:
I recently swapped out the speakers in my 2x12 cabinet from 2 Vin30s to WGS ET65/G12CS. The mid hump is pretty much gone, and the GS12CS rounds out some of the highs. The WGS speakers take out some of the KT's bite but replace it with a nice fatness. It's very good with a Telecaster or Strat, particularly when you want clean.

I've had good results in my KT45 through both a 2x10 with Z"s 10's, and with a single 12" Gold. No complaints with either. Both sounded great to me.

Might be a little too clean for you, but here's a 335>KT45>Eminence 'Swamp Thang'. Also sounds great with a stock Zbest or 2X10 Z Convertible, but I was trying for a little 'JBL clean' with the 335 ala Freddie.

KT is one of my top three Z amps. I love it. And I crank it to get the break-up. My favorite speaker set-ups w/ my KT getting good break-up is/are Z 2x10 (middle panel removed) w/ Weber 30 watt AlNiCo Silver 10s, or Z 1x12 (closed-back) w/ a Celestion Heritage G12-65 greenback-ish speaker. Both of these set-up give me great KT break-up. I also used to run an Avatar 2x12 w/ their ceramic 1225 and 1230 greenback variants. It sounded great, too, but I sold the cab to get something else (why? I'm not really sure...). Blues would sound incredible right up to where they die. Not sure I'd want to risk the investment in those speakers, but i bet it would sound great. I have a Gold, but I haven't used it much w/ my KT. Might need to try that one out again.
Perhaps the main thing I do to "get the goods" from my KT is use an Airbrake attenuator. I don't believe I could get the nice break-up at reasonable (small venue gig levels) without the attenuator. I also use a plexi/lexan shield a little bit in front of my cab to keep it from "beaming" the sound guy and/or audience. This also allows me to crank it a little more.
As said above in earlier posts, the KT is a really clean amp. You gotta get the volume above 2-3:00 to get the great break-up the KT can give. The tone knobies gotta be turned a good bit to the right, too, as they are pretty interactive w/ the volume knob in this series of amps.

So Buddy, I dug out my 335, ran a KT45 into an Eminence Swamp Thang and it didn't sound anything like this! Must be something wrong with the guitar, amp or speaker. Maybe some combination of them or all three. Right?

I've been using mine with a 2x12 open back large cab with Celestion Creamback "M"'s, and also with a 1x12 with a Celestion Creamback "H" (75w speaker). I actually prefer the 1x12 "H" over the 2x12 "M" rig. Now I'm considering trying a WGS et65, or possibly a Celestion V type. Anyone try those with a KT45 or have an opinion on how they might match up with the tone stack?? I have a V type in a 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb I also use for gigs, and I love it.
