I've gigged the Therapy now a couple of times with my new ES339 and I'm noticing it now has a very boomy bass end, even with the Bass right off.
I have adjusted the pups on the 339 to lower the bass side, with little effect.
It only happens when the V is above noon............. maybe that's the answer, but we play pretty hard rock and I like the harmonic content with V around 1 o'clock.
I haven't tried my Aurelex pad thing yet, so that may help, but it is so pronounced that I couldn't touch the bottom E string yesterday hardly at all.....
Any thoughts?

Have you put the Faber stuff on yet Pete? If you didn't go with the hybridge with titanium saddles for the bass strings you can order them separately. They make a big difference in clarity and definition as out of curiosity I tried the hybridge off my Corsa Manalishi on both my custom and 335 and it was very noticeable on the 335 but not so much on the custom. A lower value cap like 010 or 015 with a 550k pot will also give you more definition and clarity on the neck pickup if it has typical Gibson 022 and 300k pot.

Pete,
A couple of options.
A different speaker. In general a lower wattage rating will give less bass.
An EQ pedal of some sort, or a clean boost pedal with the bass rolled way back.
Let us know what works, k? Eddie

Over the past six or seven years, even before I got into Z amps, I have been using an Auralex Gramma for every job or rehearsal I play, no matter what amp I play - Polytone, Mesa, Fender or Z.
I just think it makes the amp sound better and tends to cancel out a good many of the acoustical oddities that a room may have.

I think that's why so many people (Dr.Z included) prefer the Celestion V-30 with its reduced bass with the Therapy.

Pete, if you ever get old like me and do a lot of work with arch tops, the Gramma is a real aid in defeating feedback from a full hollow body.
BTW, the Therapy sounds great with an archtop and a good 12" cabinet.

Does the 339 sound any different using another amp? Maybe even try another amp with the same speaker you're using with the Therapy?

are you playing an open back cab? at higher volumes/gains a closed back cab delivers tighter basses especially if you play a guitar like yours

I will try the Gramma and will try it closed back as well.......... this could be the answer! I'm trying to avoid putting anything else in the signal chain, and don't want to change the speaker as I love it. Let's see how this weekend goes..........

Question: Have you tried really going to town with the treble and mid controls?

I own both open back and closed back cabs: there is a huge difference in bass response. The Therapy is a beast of an amp... I tried it with a closed back 4x12 with Scumbacks and with a Zbest: it's an unbelievable rocking machine. I fear that a 1x12 open back cab could be slightly underrated in moving big volumes of air (that's the bass response)

Question: Have you tried really going to town with the treble and mid controls? Good question......I play with the Mid maxed, but the T about noon. I have a Soul Food on all the time with Gain at zero and V at 3 o'clock and the Tone at noon. I may try without that or up the tone on it a bit........ I didn't get to mess around much at the gig, but as I increased the V on the amp past noon, it got more boomy..........
