If you had to pick only one 12" speaker for a single 1x12 cab for the rest of your days...
Ceramic? Alnico? or Neodymium?
Best,
Eddie

I have to confess. I can't really wrap my head around having to hang with one speaker for the rest of my days. I've contemplated guitars and amps. You can't take swapping speakers away from us. What would this world be coming to?

Seems like I always wind up with a ceramic so that gets my vote.

Celestion AlNiCo Cream......an amp-changing speaker.... Always liked the Blue, but not enough power handling and too loose in the lowend. The Gold was my favorite speaker.......till I tried the Cream Dream. Don't let that 90 watt rating scare ya folks~

I'd like Neo for the weight, but haven't tried one that won me over. Since all the speakers I own are Greenback voiced, I'll vote for ceramic.

I always end up at the Greenback speakers so I guess ceramic is my vote too, although I've not tried a Neo

I can make any speaker sound bad, but since I've pretty much always played through ceramic I guess I'll pick that, although my back thinks it might be good to try out some neodynium models. I love my creamback with my route 66 and unless I start playing with musicians that aren't so loud I doubt I'd ever notice the difference between ceramic and alnico in the mix.

I'm new to the alnico speaker craze. Before that, I was always a ceramic guy.
Right now, I have fallen for the compression and speaker break-up that alnico offers. It's weird - like the highs are higher than ceramic, but somehow less shrill. Can't figure it out exactly, but I like alnico.
One thing I miss from a ceramic speaker is the tightness.
I grew up in the 80's, so I can't really get the RAT into a Marshall sound out of my head entirely. I could see where a player might feel that an alnico speaker might get too "squishy" or suffer from a lack of definition when presented with a LOT of gain.
Nice to have choices. Eddie

The newish Celestion G12M-65 Creamback (65W Greenback) that the Doc is loading stock in the 1x12 cab is a great 'blend' of the two speakers. Greenback flavored with Alnico qualities/feel.

I haven't heard a lot of talk on the board about neo speakers, but I sure would like to.

As long as it doesn't have an overbearing personality I'll use it. Have been curious about the neo magnet but right now my speakers all take anything I can throw at them with no voice coil rub or flabbing out so I'll probably never know. Kinda like cloth surround and curved cones though!

I haven't heard a lot of talk on the board about neo speakers, but I sure would like to. I have 2 of the 12" Eminence neo s. The tonkerlite & the lil' Texas. I like them a lot and use them in my live combo amps. They seem to work great w low watt amps. I have the Jensen neo 10" also. It didn't really have the goods for me.

I picked up a Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue a few years back that had a Jensen Neo already in it. That was my first experience with a neo speaker, and although it made the amp a LOT more comfortable to carry, it just always sounded kinda flat to me. I eventually replaced the baffle and converted it to a 2X10 with two Jensen P10R's, and I'm never going back...that amp came ALIVE with the alnicos. On the other hand, I recently took the Gold I was trying out of my MAZ and put the WGS ET-65 back in...and now the Gold's for sale. My take is...I can't say I prefer alnico over ceramic, etc. ...to me it's all about matching the right speaker to the amp, and your style and ear.

Can't vote because it depends on the amp. I've never tried a Neo so I guess it would be between the other two. The speaker that has sounded best through most amps is the Gold but it was only my favorite speaker with the Ray. My Gold is currently homeless.

Try a Celestion G12 Century Vintage Neo. Let your amp's personality come thru from clean to crunch. I have had one in my Maz 18 studio combo for about 2 years and love it for country and classic rock. celestion.com/product/14/g12_century_vintage/
