I have a hankering for a Telecaster of late, and there are *lots* of options out there. The Fender classic player Baja series is intriguing - any other suggestions for good T type guitars (fender or not) that don't break the bank?

don't forget G&L. I have a Classic, but I've heard great things re their Tribute series if price is a factor.

Squier Classic Vibe Teles are very nice. I have a CV Custom that's a great little player. At a higher price point, I really like Bill Nash's T designs. I have a T-52 that I reach for a lot.

Thanks guys! Tons of options out there - I will have to give the Squiers a closer look. To be honest, I hadn't really given them a fair shake...

I Built my Fender Tele from brand new parts to my own specs for half the price of a new one. I had fun putting it together and learnt a lot from doing so.

+ 1 on the Squire Classic Vibe…I have the Thinline model. Also, used American Standards can be found at good price points if you are patient.

Id look into road worn...tim lerch does a demo on one he picked up (used I believe)...I wish they still made texas tele...that light ash feel, thicker neck...hard to find in a sub$1000 guitar...Baja is a contender as well...I would be ripping out that s1 gobbel goop though

Another vote for the Squier CV! Though I haven't tried the actual Tele, I did have a Strat from that line and it was suprisingly nice, stock!
A used G&L is hard to beat too. I love my ASAT Special, $600 CD with a HSC a few years ago. Big bang for the buck.

It all depends on what kind of bang you're looking for.
I had a Squier CV P Bass...obviously not the same thing and while it was "good for the money" it only took about a year of weekly practices and gigs to start falling apart.
As a backup I'd have no problem suggesting one. As a main guitar not so much.
My go to line is the MIM ones. Play enough to find one that feels good and play the snot out of it. They do often benefit from some thought out upgrades, but they don't really need them. I used one for years as my main guitar and it never let me down. I did upgrade to a CS tele and it was an upgrade. But most of that was I loved the feel of it, while I just really liked the feel of the MIM.

Squier CVC or MIM standard...even a used MIM Classic series. There's some pretty good twang for the buck out there .

I traded an amp I wasn't using for it and got a much better deal! It has become my main stage guitar. I really love it. It is quite versatile with the 4 way switch. You might also check out the Reverend Eastsider T. THAT is a great guitar too. Contoured neck, locking tuners, and it twangs and rocks. You can pick one up used for $600.

American Vintage Hotrod, if you can find one. Used ones go for about $1200. I swapped the pickups in mine for Lollars, but the stock pickups are fine, too.

I'm no Tele expert by any stretch. But if you're considering a G&L, go for the American made ones. The tribute series is made in Asia and they are considerably less expensive than (and I believe not as good as) the American-made ones. If you look at them on eBay and/or Amazon, you'll see there's one store that is the primary seller in the US. They will deal, so you can make an offer for less than the listed price. I got mine (an ASAT Bluesboy 90) for $999 - case, shipping, no sales tax - included. I'm pretty happy with it. Good luck.

I went so far as to put a Baja 60's (sonic blue with rosewood) into a shopping cart online during a 20% off sale for the fourth, but balked. I'm Kinda smitten with the G&L p90 bluesboy right now, thanks to many G&L recommendations...
Sometimes trying to decide what you want is half the fun - though I wish the local shops had any of this stuff in stock...

I have a mex tele that have the volume and treble knobs reversed and I love it It is butterscotch color. Eventually I replaced the pups with fender nocasters and now I love it even more.

Price for quality "bang for the buck", it's hard to beat a used US G&L ASAT (bluesboy, classic or special). Very consistent quality\playability and no need to upgrade any components. I have a special. Not really very classic tele but my favorite of the ASAT models.

I would say Parts Teles can be the best bang for your buck option out there. It's amazing what people resale the Allparts and Warmoth stuff for... A good setup and away ya go!
