I have been Fan of Husker Du and REM for years, and have felt that by 1985 their songwriting styles had gotten pretty close, with the excecution being the difference. So I decided to record the REM song Driver 8 in Husker Du's style. I don't usually play or mix this way with so much ride cymbal and high end,but I am going for Husker's sound.I don't think they should have been mixing their records while playing 4 nights a week in front of 100 watt stacks. I'm playing my Therapy through a cheap 4x12,but honestly the gtr "tone" is all fuzzbox, chorus and reverb. There's a clean chimey track buried in there, but there always was on Husker records.
Here's some reference,REM's recording of the song, and a Husker Du song from the same period.
And my track themudlegboots.bandcamp.com/track/husker-8
