Hi Folks, Not posted here for a while. I recently moved my Maz 18 on due to playing larger venues and needing greater clean headroom. My ideal amp needs to have a great clean sound with plenty of clean headroom and be a great platform for pedals! I was able to try a Remedy today and loved it - it sounded great at almost any volume and there was something about the clean tone that I preferred over the Maz clean? I still really like the Maz enough to stay with them but, but as the subject says, which has the greater clean headroom would you say? Also, should I also be considering the Antidote a good candidate given my requirements? By the way, the main requirement from the amp for me is playing function gigs so a great deal of clean chord work in a wide variety of styles is the main requirement. BTW; I will be posing the same question to the good people over on the Maz pages Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That's a good question. I've had two Maz Jrs....but never a Sr. But on speculation, I might give the edge to the Maz Sr. But not by much.
I'll bet choosing a high efficient (high db) speaker...it will make more of a difference in headroom, than choosing between these two amps. For versatility, I would give the nod to the Sr...but again, not by much.
Something loud and clean? EZG-50? Should have louder cleans than either. ---------------------------
All that said, a 40 watt Remedy...even set to pretty clean...combined with an efficient speaker...such as a Gold (100db)...will be LOUD. Incredibly LOUD. (w/ master all the way up)
When you say 'function' gigs...corporate parties? Private parties, corporate events, weddings? Those kind of functions? If so, I can't imagine you being able to use either w/ a gold at full volume at most gigs like that. If you play a lot of these, I'd personally get a Maz Sr 1x12 combo with a gold. LOUD, clean, sounds great. It's a combo, so one less trip to haul.
I have a Remedy, but I like it for it's grind. (Although I do use it for 'big gigs' with a country band.)

Thanks John. Yes, weddings, parties, corporate events etc. It would seem fairly conclusive that (from the feedback here and on the Maz 38 page) the Maz 38 has the edge on clean headroom then! But I still fancy a different flavour. So, I think I'm going to explore the Antidote and possibly the EZG 50 Thanks again

I used to play a lot of weddings, corporate events and parties. If I ever had used a Remedy or Maz Sr at full clean volume, I would have been kicked out of the band for being too loud.
Antidote will be similar to the Remedy, but I hear it has more midrange.
EZG 50 could be a wise choice, but it's voiced differently than a Remedy.

I used a used a Maz jr for years and like you needed a little more headroom for the larger venues. Switched to a Remedy with a master volume and eq bypass for about a year for similar gigs and festivals. It is a great amp and I still have it. Since I got my Therapy it has been my main amp. I still have my Remedy for a backup. I don't play crystal clean but with the master up on the Therapy I get a really nice tone with just a bit of hair that I love. I use a pretty large pedal board for a variety of tones. Speaker and cabinet choice will make a big difference with both amps. I play modern country and classic rock, mostly with a Les Paul and sometimes a custom Tele. The Remedy is great, I just like the dynamics and pedal interaction of my Therapy better these days.
