I have a MAZ 18 Jr. that was one of the earlier models with the ground hum in the reverb. I isolated the one reverb jack from the chassis and regrounded the reverb as per instructions from Mike Z. I have recently retubed the amp with brand new JJ's and for the most part the amp is quiet and works fine but I have experienced an intermittent squealing. It does'nt happen often and I thought it was my keyboard player's cellphone causing it but it happened last weekend with no cell phones near it. I shut it off and back on again and the squealing stopped and when tapping on the amp I got it to do it for about a second, but it didnt persist. Any ideas what may be causing this?

I had something like that happen to me in the past. Have you checked your power source? I ended up plugging my amp into a Furman Power Factor Pro which solved all of my squealing issues. So I would try the amp out in a different location and see if that makes a difference.

Sounds like a microphonic tube to me.Get a pencil ,& lightly tap on your tubes.

It is most likely a tube related problem. I've had it start squealing before and changed tubes and the problem went away. I also hear some wierd harmonics on some notes but that's a class A thing that is a quirk with those type of amps, my Top Hat was worse.

No, I still must consult the Mel Bay chord book from time to time.
