Which effects do you consider your secret weapons?
I love pretty much all effects and enjoy experimenting with different and interesting sounds, but there are just a few "secret weapons" I don't know I could live without.
For a little while now I haven't been able to live without Shane's RYRA Klone and my Brake lite.
How about you guys?

My all time favorite clean boost, The EP booster. I actually tend to kcik it on over my zendrive (which is also a great pedal). I just love the richness it adds to my tone. I've consider actually having 2 on my board. one to leave on all the time and the other as a boost.

My all time favorite is my cable. By that, I mean, plugging my guitar cable to straight into my amp. I don't know why, but it's always been my thing. I do use an effect from time to time, but not very often.
Although, you did mention a brake lite. I do have to say my AirBrake is my secret weapon. I never enjoyed the crunch of saturated power tubes until I got my AirBrake. Heck! It felt like I got a brand new amp to boot when I first plugged it in.

Xotic BB followed by EP
No matter how many changes I make, those two always end up on the board.............and in truth the BB often get more airtime (I set mine with zero Gain and Max Volume, and adjust T&B to taste...... magical boost! )

Clean boost. For the last 7-8 yrs I've been using a boost pedal I made from a DIY kit. Still works great. I recently replaced it with a Shane- built Klone to also be used as a clean boost as well. Whichever one is on my board at any given moment, you can bet it is "on" and thickening up the tone with rich harmonics.

I have to have a drive of some sort...right now I have Shane's Klon Klone and my EQD Monarch...I also have a BB preamp that is quite nice.

Xotic RC boost always on, always at the end of the chain. It adds some shimmer and sparkle to the tone no matter what is in front of it.

.001 Capacitor. I can't even play a guitar till I've put one of these on the volume.

Sent from my SM-N900V using proboards

For me , it's my Xotic AC. I can get so much outta that little yellow box.
(Close behind would be my Xotic RC and Gnarly Fuzz.)

The brakelite is definitely an important piece to the puzzle! I could easily (and even gladly) play straight in as long as the attenuater is in place allowing me to crank up the VOL and GAIN.
That said, the JHS Double Barrel is quickly becoming my favorite OD and I would have a hard time giving up the Strymon El Cap...LOVE IT!

I use a clean boost in all of my rigs (even archtops), either a Creation Audio Labs, Keeley Katana, Catalinbread SCP on my boards or MXR MicroAmp with archtops.
On my boards the other constant is a compressor, either Barber TonePress, Wampler Ego or Xotic, just a tad kept on all of the time.

Jim Dunlop Jazz III picks. The red ones (easier to see WHEN you drop one on stage).
These little beauties have done more to clean up my picking technique & general playing than anything else I can think of.

2 OD's. Back in the day it was an 808 and a Rat…..nowadays it's Shane's RYRA Klone and a Plimsoul.

A decent taper on the guitars volume control to work the amp. Very much enjoying a recently acquired Rockett Archer at the minute.

^^ that's not a bad price considering how much these have gone up in value. I bought one YEARS ago at a guitar show for fifty bucks.

Waller echo pedal. Fits in nicely between a wet reverb and delay without being too over the top

Not a secret here, but when I play out to a group who doesn't know me they check out my pedal board (as well as amps) and ask what a Tim, Timmy, and a Flying Dragon is. I use these pretty much exclusively because I haven't been able to bond with anything else.

With my Maz 8, my Brakelite is THE weapon I couldn't do without. My Lazy J Cruiser Deuce is close second. My Therapy is often played naked, and I really like it that way. The Lazy J or an EP Booster may add a little something from time to time.

A fuzz pedal made by a one man shop in Jersey-started out as Earthbound audio, switched for about 9 months to Acid age electronics, then back to Earthbound audio. He makes a couple of fuzzboxes,i have the acid age version of the 71 Supercollider, and it is like destruction in a box-if you want to go quiet to loud grunge,Blue cheer psychedelic,Doom,Stoner metal,Gregg Ginn from Black Flag,it covers all of them.It reminds me most of a blown amp-but in a good way earthboundaudio.bigcartel.com/product/71-supercollider-pre-order
