My Strat heard the Z Lux video by Dave Baker (just incredible tones for sure!) and started giving me a hard time saying that if I ever wanted to play it again, without a fight, it had better be through a Z Lux! Really? So tonight at our pre-gig full rig rehearsal, I brought the Strat out and plugged it into my Therapy for the first time (at gig settings and volume) and taught it a lesson it won't easily forget! I took it by the scruff of the neck, and my Therapy whipped it's a$$ and knocked some sense into it, I can tell you! By the end of the night it was begging for more ? Man alive, I haven't heard tones like that from my Strat, EVER! Also, the amp Tone controls are WAY more sensitive and far reaching with a Strat than anything else I've played through this amp, WAY more.......... what a glorious sound to behold! The combination of the Therapy and the Eminence Governor speaker meant that the bridge pup was easily useable, for once, and the neck pup was sublime! She quacked away in 2&4 too. I think Strat and I have got the measure of each other again, and I'll be gigging her for a while for sure......... Really looking forward to it! Settings on Therapy were TMB all at noon, MV - 11, V - 1 - used the GV a lot as usual. Happy camper ??

I started trying out my guitars when Charlene (my Therapy) arrived, but when I got to the Grosh Bent Top Custom I had to take a pause because that combination just THRILLED me. Well I've been playing that setup here for some number of months and every time I go down to the studio, I think "I need to try out ____" but when the power gets applied - in goes the Strat and we are back to heaven.

Cool Beans- It's about time you came to your senses Pete! ;) Now if you really want to hear some really special Strat goodness pair that Therapy with a EZG-50 (2X12 G12-65 will do nicely) and sand back. Just sayin'...

Since last summer I've been into humbuckers, mostly my 335. Every time I got the Strat out it would, well, kick my butt. Which is strange, because I've been a 98% Strat player since the 90's. I got it out and turned the Therapy up past 1:00 on both the master and the volume. B-9:30, M-12:00, T-1:30. At first it was a losing battle. I couldn't get the upper hand. But after a while things began to change, and I experienced the glory of playing the instrument rather than the other way around! So thanks...I'm going to start playing the Strat more often. It really is a great guitar, and sometimes it gets the better of me. NO MORE!

My Strat ..........The combination of the Therapy and the Eminence Governor speaker meant that the bridge pup was easily useable, for once ........ Hey Pete! What'd ya mean here? You find that the bridge pu on the Strat isn't very usable? jj

Ha! Not normally JJ .......... Cut yer head off at 20 paces Not now though.......... Very cool tone, but I think it s a speaker thing, because now my Z28 sounds stellar through this Governor, even on the bridge pup

I was wondering if that was because of that pu's trebly nature, and the fact that Fender wires it straight through to the output? Not very usable in that configuration. I always modify my Strat wiring - route that pickup through the back tone knob so you can roll the highs off like you do on the Tele. That wiring scheme makes that back pickup on the Strat EXTREMELY usable - I use it more than all the rest! Just roll off some (most )of the highs and that pickup sings!
Another hip mod I've done on a black Custom Shop '56 (love those 50's neck profiles) Strat is to add in a Clapton Strat preamp. Has a treble cut and boost (center detente) in the front tone knob, and a low-mid boost on the back tone knob. That low-mid boost REALLY thickens up that back pickup and makes it WAY usable (some folks say it makes it sound like a humbucker; I don't say that, but it's cool and eminently usable). I had to sacrifice the whammy function for it as I put the preamp in the back springs cavity. Could easily get the whammy back by routing out a spot for the preamp under the pick guard like the Clapton Strat's, but this experimental rig worked so well I never changed it. Just used the custom shop pu's that were in there. I see those Clapton Strat preamp's on eBay from time to time, if you ever had the inkling to do such a thang. The preamp really drives hard and will add quite a bit of overdrive distortion when you dime the volume pot on the guitar. Usually best not to go all the way to "10"!!!
Anyway, nuff ramblin'.

Ok, I HAVE to ask, but....
I've always heard that the Maz 18 was the best strat amp ever, so can the Therapy be better? lol

Ok, I HAVE to ask, but.... I've always heard that the Maz 18 was the best strat amp ever, so can the Therapy be better? lol I don't think of it as "better" but the difference is exhilarating. I loved my Maz Jr. NR with the Strat. Therapy is also really great with the Strat, but it has more dynamics than the Maz, which can be really fun.

I've always heard that the Maz 18 was the best strat amp ever, so can the Therapy be better? lol I'm probably outside the majority, but i'd take Tele with Maz and Strat with Therapy every time. i've never loved the Maz as a Strat amp. But easily my #1 for Tele, and that's what i'm always playing now. Therapy might be the best Strat-Z combination i've heard, tho i really really loved Strat-Galaxie also. cheers

My Strat settings: This is very close to my settings.......I like mine a bit warmer, so both T and B are at noon, but the secret sauce lies in that Mid knob, and I have mine Maxed permanently! ?

I have a feeling that although that is where I like it, turning it the other way provides some tones that many find favor with as well. But with the middle dimed, and playing through a Celestion Alnico Gold, this thing just kills.

Turned all the way off, the Therapy loses a LOT of its mojo, and sounds muddy and lifeless. As you have said many times Steve, and I completely concur, the Therapy mojo lives in that Mid knob
