Hi, it's talking from Italy....bad english I suppose...anyway.... I probably have a simple question for you, thank you so much for anyone who 'll take time answering me:
My Dr z maz 18 had a strange "HUM noise" days ago, I replaced an EL84 with an used one I have home...the problem solved, but:
_shall I have to go to a technician to control the bias ? Am I risking to damage something? Shell I have to buy a new EL84 ? Thank you very much...Have a nice day Stefano

You do not need to bias the Maz 18. You should use a balanced (matched)pair of new EL84s. But you will not damage anything as it is.

thank you so much for your answer! So I should buy a couple of new EL84...what do you mean about "balanced"? Actually I should say "Matched Pair" - 2 tubes tested to have the same electrical characteristics , so each has the same output , etc.

Ok I think to understand ...for example ...if I buy two Electro Armonix EL84 I suppose they have the same electrical charateristics ...Thank you so much again!

Ok I think to understand ...for example ...if I buy two Electro Armonix EL84 I suppose they have the same electrical charateristics ...Thank you so much again! 2 tubes , even new from the same manufacturer , might not match each other. Purchase your tubes from a good vendor who will test both tubes , to see they are closely matched. Here is an article about matching , hope it helps : www.ramlabs-musicreference.com/virtues.html
