Keeley Fuzz Head all the way. It straddles the line between fuzz & distortion (I still can't figure out which it is!) and it cleans up extremely well with the guitar's volume knob. Reacts very dynamically to your right hand, too; very interesting pedal with simple setup and great tone.
If not this, then yes your OCD in HP mode would also work very well (if it's anything like my v1.4).

Just about any decent high gain pedal will get you close. I like the Wampler Velvet Fuzz a lot for that kind of stuff--if you want something less compressed the Jetter Train Drive is also awesome, especially with a Les Paul (a little fizzy with a Tele, maybe). Or yeah, an OCD.

My V1 of the OCD did an awesome job getting those early ZZ tones. I played it through a clean 6L6 amp with an SSH loaded strat. It didnt get as close (for me)to the Sharp dressed man and after tones though.

Don't forget the ZVEX Fuzz Factory....actually that's how ZVEX really took off....Billy tried one....and loved it so much that he bought 20 of them as gifts.
