so i looked around and i havent found anything about this idea but im curious if it could be done or not.
i was re-watching my dr z dvd and at the part with joe walsh he was talking about having a special half-power switch and i started thinking whether or not that could be done to the maz38 to be able to cut the power in half. i love my maz38 and i do have a maz 18 that i take to smaller jams and places that the 38 would be waaayyy too loud but itd be pretty awesome if i could somehow get both in one. anyone know?

It can't be done. The Maz is a cathode biased amp. With them you can't disable two of the output tubes like you can with a fixed biased amp like a Fender twin or 100 watt Marshall.

Uhhh...I believe the Remedy is a cathode-biased amp, and it has a half-power switch. Can't say I know the details of how that's done though.

The remedy gets its half power in a different way than the traditional pull two tubes way I was alluding to. I guess there might be a way to use that method with EL84s but that involves more electronics than I know.

Just get an Airbrake. Seriously, I wouldn't be without mine with my Maz 38. Job done.

Pretty easy to do really, a switch and new cathode resistor/cap. Any competent tech should be able to it in less than an hour with $15 in parts.
The Remedy is cathode biased and has a half power switch. However it's done in a way that all the output tubes are still in the circuit so the primary impedance of the OP transformer does not change.
going half power you only loose about 3db which is not much. The difference in volume will be about the same as going from the hi to low input jack with the amp set clean.
