Hello all,
One day I'd like to own a Dr. Z. I have a Friedman Dirty Shirley (amazing amp), but it's too loud. For the gigs I play, I don't really get to turn it up past two. I also have a Fender Hot rod deluxe, which is a good amp, but nothing special. The Friedman is very 3 dimensional, and while it nails that marshall tone, It doesn't have great cleans. I'd like an amp that has great cleans and that has great edge of breakup type tone. I play blues, rock, and jazz. I'm thinking either the Maz 18 Jr. reverb, or the Carmen Ghia. I would like a head and cab, so what cab would you guys recommend with either amp? Also, are all of Z's amps very pedal friendly?
Thanks

Both good choices. The Therapy is a fabulous amplifier too.

I was thinking Therapy too...cab wise is sorta preference but since volume is a concern you might stick to single speaker set ups. I love my 1x12 convertible cab. Speaker and cab size would come after you decide on the amp. I would go 1x10 with the Ghia...never owned the MAZ 18 but seems like 1x12 is common with them.... Lots of us love the 2x10 & 2x12's here but two speakers will be louder than one.
Welcome aboard!

I love my Maz Jr. 2x10. I have a 1x12 w/cream back that sees the Ghia head weekly at church, but I think I prefer the 2x10 cabinet. This is truly a personal taste. The creamback is quieter

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I had the chance to play a maz 18 and Ghia. There was something amazing about the Ghia. While the Maz was great, the Ghia sounded more 3D. I didn't tweak the Maz Much. I really liked the Ghia. The maz felt kind of "flat" and didn't seem as 3D as the ghia. I've seen people talk about how the ghia has something special- it truly does! I played a combo, but I'm not sure if it was a 1x10 or 1x12. How does the Ghia sound with the 2x10 cab? Would you guys recommend a 2x10 or 2x12? I like the 1x12 (or 1x10), but I'd like more speaker versatility.
Thanks for all your help!

I'd vote for the 2x10. I just like the tonal balance of Doc's 10s. But if you're looking for versatility, buying a 1x12 allows you to play with speaker changes by only buying 1 speaker. Of course you can only buy 1 10 and mix and match. Well you get the idea.
