I noticed that I was getting a lot of tube rattle and I guess that "microphonic sound" a cloudy muffled sound out the speakers on certain notes from the z wreck. I'm on my 2nd set of tubes as the originals failed and were replaced. There's not a whole lot of time on this current set, maybe a couple hundred hours. . Also. I'm getting static noise when I switch the standby switch on and off. Along with that I was having volume spikes while playing, sometimes brief, sometimes volume stayed up.
So...I didn't have another set of the 6n14n tubes. Therefore, I put a new set of JJ el84s in to see what would happen. Tube rattle and cloudy sounds were gone, but still some static switch standby on/off. Still having volume changes.
Here is the most significant problem I found next. I found while adjusting the the bass knob, while playing a chord, I had the same volume spike. Then i did the same with the treble, just not at severe. I went and did a push/pull on the bass knob and again recreated the volume spike. Next, I took my knuckle and tapped on both treble and bass and I could hear the tap coming out the speaker, especially the treble knob. Nothing happened when manipulating the cut or volume knobs.
I ordered a new set of tubes 6n14n-ev. But, what should I do about the bass/treble pots? Should I take the chassis out and attempt to clean them with something? Or...is it more of an electrical issue and I need to take it back up to see the DR? Luckily, I'm not too far away from Z headquarters 80miles. Just trying to avoid the trip if there something I can do or try.
Thanks
Justin
