I play around with speakers about as much as anybody around here and try as I may I still love the Greenback and it's variants. Golds sound great, Red Fang is awesome, V30's and on and on all sound great and do their thang but when I go back to a Greeny I feel like I just walked into an old friends house, feeling right a home and comforatable. Anyone else feel this way or I am just being nastolgic? Todd

I thought you were going to offer up an economic comment on the recent strength of the US dollar versus other currencies. I do like my 12" Creamback M. Sounds great with most amps, but I especially like it with the Remedy and Antidote. Also mighty good with the Rx ES.

The Greens definitely have a warm pleasing tone...I think that's what feels so inviting. I'm currently more infatuated with the 10" Greenbacks than their 12" counterpart. I have a Greenback and Gold in my Avatar 2X10 and that's a great sounding cab.

Not at all, Todd. The Greenback is a truly understated workhorse of awesome tone. I've heard it work well in a variety of applications--from "crunchy" closed-back British stacks, to "chimey" open-back British combos, and even in blackface combos. That classic 20/25W G12M keeps its head down, its mouth shut, and does it's job--well.

I have three main amps Marshall 1974x with stock aged 20 watt Greenback Blackstar Artisan 15 with stock 20 watt Greenback Maz 18 JR NR after trying loads of different speakers has a 25 watt Greenback in for the last 4 years.
Think there may be a bit of a trend. Also note all dual EL84 but three very different flavours

I have Greenbacks in an open back 2 x 12 and in a 4 x 12. Just something about the sound of a Greenback pushed by EL34s (Germino Lead 55 LV)or KT66s (Germino Classic 45). Greenies are my favorite sound followed closely by the G12H Anniversary Speaker.

I really like the WGS Green Beret. And the 10" Celestions.

Celestion's 10" Greenback is a GREAT speaker. And I'm not just saying that because of what's in the BS&T right now...

Hey Todd, are you using them with your Therapy? In a 2x12 cab? I've never used them before...Currently I've been using the WGS Retro ( V30 ) with my Therapy. I don't have a favorite speaker but it's real interesting hearing them and their differences. The WGS a Retro was a little more easy on the ears than the Celestion V30...how do Greenbacks and V30's differ?

...how do Greenbacks and V30's differ? V30's have a huge and dominate spike in tone of the upper mids. Some people like it, others hate it. For a gig, this upper mid spike in tone really cuts through the mix. The V30 also has a big 50 oz. magnet. That should help with very firm bass. (The speaker won't fart out) But sometimes it's hard to tell if there's a lot of bass because of the dominant upper mids. The V30 is also a loud speaker at 100db. (for a given amount of amp power) The greenback is also known for it's mids, but they're more spread out. Not such a narrow spike like the V30. The greenback also has only a 35oz magnet. This means a bit less bass...and it also means at higher volumes, the speaker can have a hard time keeping up with what it's supposed to reproduce. This is breakup. some like it, some don't. Also at higher volume, the greenback will attenuate crispy highs. This helps eliminate fuzzy/buzzy tone. So with the attenuation of highs and the lack of some bass...what's left is nice mids. The greenback (reissue) is only 98 db....which is quieter than the 100db V30. This means you can crank the amp more.

I'm right there with you, Todd. I put a Greenback in my MAZ18, and it's there to stay. The cabs I use for my higher output head are Greenie inspired - a Creamback M and a Scumback. The WGS versions are just as sweet.

John covered the differences between the speakers very nicely so I won't restate any of that. I recently changed my 2x12 over to Greenbacks. The night I did it my music directly commented on my tone after rehersal. He had no idea I changed anything he noticed my playing seemed livelier to him. With my made in England Greens I was able to bring the volume up a little and the speakers cut thru in a very pleasant way. 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel. Love 'em!

Greenback has been my fav in my 1x12 z28 for years now. Mostly because of the smoothness but also for the ability to get those power tubes cookin'

For you greenback lovers, you owe it to yourself to spend some time with the Creamback M as mike discussed. Has what I love about greenbacks, namely a tight punchiness, but with the creamy mids and sparkly highs of an alnico speaker.
Best of both worlds and at only 97 dab of sensitivity.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'm loving my Stangray rig loaded with Greenbacks. They are the 25 watt reissues, but in this cab they just rock!

I tried it and really liked it, but I'm a 210 kind of guy and really like greenback 10s, so I may be a bit biased.
