going to go back to the weber silverbell speaker again. I used to have a 50 watt that I liked but am wondering if I should opt for a 75 watter this time around. any thoughts? any difference in tone? I figure the 75 watt would bring more headroom and be able to handle more amp wattage should I decide to use other amps with it in the future. Right now Im just using the 18 watt Maz jr and 35 watt Therapy. Going to go with light doping.

I seem to remember somewhere on the Weber site that they indicated the higher wattage speaker would exhibit a warmer high end. I would go with the 75w especially if you use any extra drive pedals or fuzz. Under light duty and more moderate music the 50w would be fine, but I feel more comfortable with the higher wattage speaker for a 1-12 rig. As you know there are more factors than wattage rating to determine sonic differences, but the higher rated speaker in general will recover faster and if it's an open cabinet that may prove more versatile. I use a Weber California rated at 80w, all that said the cone on those silver bells gives a tight bass with plenty of poke. You may want to email Weber and ask if you would notice the difference in a particular frequency.

The SB is a great speaker but I've only owned the 30 and 50 watt ceramic versions (light dope). I had the 50 in my Maz 18 combo for about 6 years. If the "warmth" increase is the same between the 50 and 70 as it was for the 30 to 50, I think the 70 would lose too much of what I like about the speaker. +1 on contacting Weber. Their posted descriptions have always been accurate (to me) and they have been helpful on specific questions the few times I contacted them.

Howdy,
I'm entering this discussion a bit late, but here's my 2 cents. When I purchased my Carmen Ghia head and matching 1x12 cab I e-mailed Ted Weber (Feb. of 2009, before he passed away). He immediately replied that his speaker suggestion was his 30 watt AlniCo silver bell with pre-rola treatment. It's great as a stand alone for my Ghia. Clean tones are better than the Celestion Blue I have in my cab now. For slightly overdriven raunch and chord complexity, the blue holds the advantage. I cannot speak to the advantages of the SB in a 50 or 75 watt offering. Hope this helps.

I ended up with a 50 watt silver for 1 1x12 cabinet and then bought another 75 watt silver for another 1x12 cabinet. I like the 75 watter, so I just ordered a 75 watt silver and a 75 watt blue dog for my 2x12.

^^^^That oughta do it! What did you notice, was the high end a bit sweeter? I like the warmth of the weber speakers. theyre not overly bright and they have just the right amount of high and low end and mids in them for my tast and style of music. they also sound "big" to my ears as well.
