Great playing. That is too cool! I thought you were going to pull the lighter fluid out at the end. ;D

The 66 Rules! Those are the kinda tones I dig.
Kossoff, Jimi, Bluesbreaker, anything from '79 back is in there.
Like you said in the 66 post, anything is in there with the right pedals. I've even played "Shy Boy" David Lee Roth in the trio with the 66. (We always have a "suprise" cover during the original gigs)

hehe thanks a lot guys! I am in love with that amp! The recording with the noise and my phrasings need lots of work but I'm more interested in nailing that signature tone first and it feels like I'm starting to get close thanks to the 66! I think I'll record a little clip for each of those pedal variations to hear the sonic differences. Will keep you posted. This forum rules!

Thanks tw6t6. The those tones may never get old but those of us who were around when they were first played sure do! ;-)

What guitar are you using? I think Jimi would be playing a 66 if he were around today. It matches his style well.
Good stuff!

stouthearted: You're probably right if Jimi was using a Route 66 he would! In that clip I was using a Fender Classic '70s Strat setup like the Robin Trower Strat with Custom 50's neck pickup and custom shop '69s in middle and bridge. Here she is here but this setup was before swapping the CS 69 neck for the custom 50s taken from a '56 relic Strat areyouexperienced.net/shielding-70s-stratocaster-1.htm I also have a Highway 1 with Custom 60's pickups whihc are very bright sounding and a perfect match for the Route 66 along with a Fulltone '69 fuzz. It's Monterey city all the way with that combo. See that one here along with a clip from Andy Aledort of Guitar World playing a '61 Strat through the JH100 Marshall Stack with KT66s. Luckily, the Route 66 doesn't cost $6500 like the JH100! areyouexperienced.net/cs-60s.html

Thanks mcuh T-Bar! stouthearted: The '69 does do violin like sustain easily with the amp set up around 12 o'clock and the fuzz set on the Monterey setting |Volume 12 'clock | Bias dimed | Contour 12 o'clock | Fuzz dimed| For more violin, dime the Contour. I'll make a little clip later with just the '69 because I find myself using that now more than the GT-500, the OCD, Soul Bender or '70s and Keeley Java Boost, pedals, though the '70s pedal is a close runner up for the Band of Gypsies type tones. The 66 absolutley loves Fuzz pedals! I never thought I'd be using a Fuzz as my main overdrive because through any other amp they always seemed a bit mushy compared to the OCD or some bost overdrive pedal. Now those seem somewhat fake compared to the more natural tone of the 66 combined with the '69 fuzz with everything from clean to bombastic overdrive right in the volume control. Now I know why Jimi lectured Mike Bloomfield that the Fuzz Face and the CryBaby being the only ones that really worked. “The Fuzz Face was the most distorted sounding of such units, and the two plugged together created permanent sustain and endless distortion. See bottom of page paragraph www.musicplayer.com/article/the-gear-jimi/Mar-05/4046With most of todays amps having all the pre-printed circuit boards with several preamp sections, the above info Jimi said wouldn't apply because you really can't coax those natural sounds out of a modern amp that same way. Also, Jimi's engineer Eddie Kramer is cited so say that ´those KT66 had a major influence on the sound´ ... and that is now when everybody says that a part of his sound came from the EL-34 tubes ;-) See www.jimihendrix.dk/index.php?lang=en&page=gear

Very cool, great playing. Sounds like you were playing loud as heck at the end, and it really works.

Thanks zdogma: Funny thing is, I don't think I had the amp any higher than 1-2. The GT-500 added a lot of the sustain and bigger sound. Though I do like to play most of the time with everything dimed for the thrill, it's not always good for recording or for keeping the ole lady happy. hehe
