I had an opportunity I could not pass up happen this past week. A dang near mint 1965 BlackFace Deluxe came along. Not a DR- a plain Deluxe with Tremolo, the original footswitch, barely a mark on the tolex and a cherry unmolested chassis. I also got the original tubes in addition to the newer power tubes the guy I got it from put inside. His story was this was in a corner in an old lady's house with a '67 humminbird and both were dusty. He wrangled it and decided he wanted a dual Z set up for his band. I offered him my '28 & ext cab for the amp. He agreed and long story short it came in today via a mutual friend who happened to be going to that side of the state this weekend. After some soul searching I made the call to do the swap. I loved my '28. It was gold faced, green jeweled and played many gigs with me in the five years I owned it. It was reliable and stout but I hadn't been using it live for the past year or so. I don't really do big iron amps and the '28 was my largest, heaviest amp in the stable. I may pick one up down the road to have again when time and $$ permits but I can say I'm happy as a kid w dad's 'Vette. Sure, the amp needs a cap job, a speaker upgrade and a three prong grounded cord but it's a piece of history and a toneful one at that. I am Z less for now but I don't regret the friends I've made on this board nor the time I spent with that amp. Out of the four Zs I've been fortunate enough to own the '28 was the mainstay. She's being put to good use so I don't mind her leaving. I hope she turns out like this Deluxe someday

I have a 66 Super Reverb in about the same condition. It sat covered in a closet for 28 years. As good as it sounds doesn't get much love anymore - too many Zs. But it's not going anywhere. Don't leave the Forum - still fun even without a Z!
Nice. Don't feel like you can't post here though. You'll own another Z someday so please stick around

To be continued... Has been continued today. I have Southmusic70's old Z-28. It has a Cel. Gold ten inside the combo and is better than I remember it. The articulation, the presence, the full voice of my guitar. It's amazing to hear again for the first time in two years. I'm grateful for Tom's friendship and the incredible deal I got on this amp. I can't wait to gig it and put some miles on the speaker. What an amp. Glad to be a Z owner again.
GuitarZ: They say you should be on the same page about kids before you get married. I really think you ought to talk about expectations on outdoor Christmas/Holiday lights. That could have been a game changer.

GuitarZ: Arggh! We had it on the calendar to stop out and see you but got caught up with holiday stuff. I could have met you & Frank & my wife could have connected with her friend from back in grade school. You snooze you lose. The FB videos sound great!

GuitarZ: Why is it once you finally clean the junk off your work bench, within 5 minutes, you find yourself ready to deposit some other junk right back on to that now clean space?

rossco: the variable e.q bypass is great because while bypassed it you get the raw sound of the amp without the e.q and everything else attenuating the signal which sounds great and a because its variable on the foot switch you can dial in to taste, 1/2 way I like

rossco: you don't have to fully bypass the tone stack which is great because gives you room to dial in your sound, it certainly thickens up the sound and adds nice growl/midrange growl. I don't like pedals so this replaces everything for me

easyed: It seems that the only time I clean off my workbench is when I need the space for something else. If I don't take a break, it's less than 5 minutes before that space is full again.
