Any other fans here?I love their blending of retro southern R&B with post indie rock. The whole band can play, and with restraint. And that's not even mentioning the amazing singer-she knows how to push herself to the edge of her vocal range without going over it.That said I was a little annoyed by their SNL appearance last night-background singers were too loud and un needed.Still, new song is great,if the album is close to the first one i'll be happy.

No Problem-I love hearing new bands, and I like to share. You might also like Lake Street Dive-they have a lot of jazz in their sound, which is not my thing, but also a lot of traditional R&B-and again, great musicians and singer.
this is live on the radio, nice job filling in the horn parts with backing vocals

She reminds me of Sister Rosetta Thorpe with that cool SG Custom she played on SNL.

That's good stuff-alt country/folk/neo traditional totally works for me.I used to be in a band with a talented guy who could write, play and sing like this-I was the jackass who jumped up and down to his left with my guitar around my knees.

Saw Alabama Shakes last night at Forest Hills tennis stadium in Queens.Drive by truckers were the opening act.I liked both bands a lot,IDK if it's the band or venue's choice, but no video screens made it old school,no closeups, just enjoy the music.Sound was good for an outside show, but wind still messed with things a bit-It affected the Truckers more, they played 3 songs with dramatic builds/climaxes,and some of the impact was lost. All 3 guys on guitar can play though, and I'm gonna give their catalog a listen. Shakes were also great, crowd was in Brittany Howard's hands from the start, her voice is outstanding, subtle lights, several peaks to the set.Slightly abrupt finish though,Seemed like they might have been cut short-I think the stadium is part of the parks dept, they might have a curfew.A good night though,2 good bands playing their asses off.

Just saw this thread - I'm a BIG FAN of Alabama Shakes. The first album was solid stuff and I thought it was wonderful. Their second album is way more original and unique and I love it even more. They really know how to sound like a band with a sound all their own. Plus, I could listen to Brittany sing the phone book. Such soul!
And DBT are something special too. Been around way longer with a huge catalog of material. Def worth checking out as well if you're new to them.
