Someone in a thread, maybe in the Ghia section, had asked whether someone could record both the Ghia and Maz Jr dimed to determine which might be louder. So, tonight I figured I'd give it a go. With my set-up, where both amps are operating with standard tubes, there seems to be a clear winner. You can be the judge. The clips alternate from the Ghia to the Maz Jr. I go through a couple of different styles/feels in there and keep it simple. www.MikeZBand.com/music/GhiaMazVolumeWar.mp3I sent both of the amps through my Randall IsoCab outfitted with a Celestion V30. My Maz Jr is a reverb model. I turned off the reverb and added some via Cakewalk's Sonar to both to keep things consistent.

Nice job comparing the two...the Ghia goes first, followed by the Maz. The Maz is slightly louder. Also has more headroom than the Ghia, which is where it really counts in a loud band. That being said, the Ghia is still one loud mofo!

The Maz Jr did come out louder. However, after thinking about this, I tend to run my Ghia dimed. I run the Maz Jr with Master and Pre between 2 o'clock & 3 o'clock. So, volume-wise, I would probably be at about the same volume after dialing in my 'sound'. It's probably more of a case that you have to be able to get the sound and tone that you want at the volume that you want. I was thinking that I could possibly pop a clean boost in front of the Ghia to eek out another dB or so and fatten it up, but I really like the tone where I run it. It was still fun comparing the two.

I agree the Maz had a little more headroom, but I really like the sound of a guitar straight into a dimed Ghia..It just "works" for me Nice job!!
