Any suggestions? I've got a Boss Fender verb pedal on the way to check out. However the reviews I've read are pretty polarized.

The Wampler Faux Spring reverb is good. The Strymon Blue Sky is also good.

Those are a bit more spendy than I'm willing to go for a pedal I'll seldom use.

I have lots of reverb pedals. The one that sounds like the best spring verb to me is the Plush Good Verberations. It sounds exactly like a spring verb to me, well as close as I've come in a pedal. My favorite verb pedal is the Wet Reverb, but you were asking about spring sounds.

What you can also do is get a Strymon El Capistan. Yes it is a delay pedal but it also has a spring reverb as a secondary function. You can sell your other delay pedals to recoup some of the costs. Just an idea.

I like my Boss FRV-1 a lot. (I think this is the pedal you are referring to.). I run it through the effects loop of my NR Maz 18 and 38 when I'm too lazy to haul my Z-Verb.

I have a Carl Martin headroom which is a proper spring analogue unit with two lots of identical controls for two separate levels of reverb that are switchable. I have it set up in the loop of my Maz 18 NR sitting on top of the amp and switch it remotely. Goes from just a nice touch of ambience to full on surf/crash reverb. A bit overpowering in front of the amp if you use your guitar volume control a lot. I also have a Wampler faux spring which is just too brash for me with a very sensitive level control and I end up with it almost off. Apparently designed to go in front of amp but again ,especially with buckers , very overpowering as you up the guitar volume or add a boost or drive pedal.

I've got a Z-Verb and and a '60's Gibson tank.
The Boss one seems fine to me. Keep the tone control low, lower then you'd think. In a band setting it sounds good. Very similar to a real Fender tank.
The EH one also worked well for me. But it can buzz in some settings.
Still need to try out a Strymon Flint.

I think my TC Electronics Hall of Fame sounds pretty good. Has some great flexibility as well.

I've got the Solidgoldfx Surf Rider and love it. Maybe also a little spendy, but worth it. Also, I've heard the Subdecay Super Spring Theory is tough to beat, and actually, a buddy just bought it and loves it.

Yea I've been eyeballing the Spring Theory as well, I just don't use 'verb enough to warrant the cost. Every now and then I like to surf.

For surf... then I would suggest the Wampler. But then you get what you pay for!

Yeah I bought the Surf Rider a while back, but if I was in the market now I'd get the Spring Theory. I think it's probably better than the Wampler - it's been getting rave reviews.

I'd go for the HOF mini, then, Lefty. Download one of the spring reverb toneprints and you're good to go for well under $100, used.

Yea I've been eyeballing the Spring Theory as well, I just don't use 'verb enough to warrant the cost. Every now and then I like to surf. I never dug reverb- always thought it got things too muddy for my tastes... Until my recent amp change. I still figured it was a novelty sound that was there if I needed it. Man it has grown on me- finding those Chris Isaak-like big chords with a little tremolo wobble just takes my heart. You might find this effect getting more use than just surf. If I were to go with a pedal version I'd pick up a Dr Scientist Reverberator. There is a tank sound, but the plate is fantastic.

+1 for the Strymon flint. It is pricey..but has several awesome verbs and also packs a great tremolo.

Another nice one to check out is the Catalinbread Topanga. A typically great take on a classic sound. I like the volume control, gives a push similar to the outboard Fender units.

Line 6 M5. It does several really nice 'verbs. It may be a little more than the Boss pedal but it also does a bunch of other stuff so it's not a one-trick pony and may replace some things you already have on your board.

I got the FRV-1 today, while it's a cool box, I found it to be very bright, even with the tone all the way down. I think I'll check out the Catalinbread Topanga at some point. No hurry.

I found the Boss pedal to be the same way. Really, trust me on this, the Line 6 "M" series of pedals sound good on delays, 'verbs, and modulation stuff. They aren't boutique so they get a bad rap but that shouldn't bother you since you were willing to try a Boss pedal.

Yep Which honestly is close to the Fender stand alone tanks. Even on my Z Verb I keep the tone really low. Part of the reason I prefer the Gibson tank to the Fenders for vintage stuff. Might be a good reason to try the TC stuff. You can tweak the tone in their software. I did that with one of their delays and got a "tape" delay that really works for me....but in many ways is far from a traditional tape setting. I've found I like rolling off lows and highs from most delay and reverb models to help them fit with the original tone better to my ears.

It doesn't alter tone at all on my rig...did that the other day "kustom250"...and found it to barely negligible difference.
That is a piece of gear "docice"
