Four words describe this amp - Huge sound, small package!! I stopped in at the shop this morning (details in another thread) and Doc was just working out the pricing on the amp. It is finished except for maybe a minor tweak or two according to Doc. He took me back and let me noodle for a bit. Then they showed me how it sounded cranked a little - Holy Smokes - I hope you've been saving your pennies and nickels because this one is gonna be another home run!! Lush, rich, reverb. Tremolo to surf on forever. Big, thick sound on the verge of distortion and breaking up - did I say I really like this amp??? Still has the 20/40 capability. Also includes a "boost" switch - almost like the EQ bypass however a bit of the signal still comes through so you have some control over the EQ functions. Two button reverb/tremolo foot switch. All new Doc-designed, Eminence built speaker. Noiseless fan to keep things cool under the hood. And, are you ready for it??? Only 42 pounds!!!!! Doc had me pick up the cab before they put the chassis into it - hard to tell it even had a speaker in it - it was that light!!! Did I say I really, really like this amp?? The one I played through was black with the Z-Wreck grill cloth and black piping - wicked good looking!! One of these is definitely joining its brothers and sisters in the MuZum!! Now clean the drool off your keyboard and figure out how you are gonna pay for this "future classic" amp!

Just what I need: another amp to lust over. At least it might give me a reason to be okay with not having purchased a Therapy.

How does it compare tone wise to the Jaz?

How does it compare tone wise to the Jaz? Remember, I've only heard it briefly but here goes - to my ears it has more of the American voicing (the "F" word). With the boost it gets on the verge of distortion - hear SRV sound. One of my first reactions was that John from Peach Guitars in the UK is really gonna like this amp! And of course, not related to town is how light this amp is. That said, it is very clear that it is a direct decendent of the Original JAZ 20/40. Does someone need both? Probably not, but you should have one or the other .

What is the actual physical dimensions of the combo?
I'm really interested in this purported weight of 42lbs.
For comparison I checked out the 10" Combos which weigh in @ 37lbs, the 12" Studio Combos match the 42lbs.
I guessing Docs using his Studio Combo box to house the Luxe?
Didn't the old J A Z topple the 60lb barrier ?

This was definitely way lighter than the old JAZ - it was around 60 - I had the 2x10 and it was heavy!

Just for the record, one of the reasons I like the C Gold is the difference in weight compared to ceramic mag speakers. Who knows. If my original JAZ 1x12 combo had an alnico mag speaker I may not have changed it to a piggyback. I wonder what the new amp will weigh with a C Gold.

Any idea when this will be available? Exciting! Doc said around tax time - so 6 weeks or less I'm guessing. It's basically done except for minor tweaks and having the faceplates done.

Very exciting...now how to figure out how I'm going to find one to try! Hopefully some store in the area will get one. Or maybe I should just take the word of the Z brothers, and go for it.

Any talk of the new 12" speaker Doc designed being in his 1x12 cabs?

Any talk of the new 12" speaker Doc designed being in his 1x12 cabs? It's Doc design built by Eminence. Doc was going for an American-based sound with the speaker. I thought it sounded perfect in this amp. I believe it may also be stock in Z-28 combos/

Stan - I know the cabinet itself is light - I would guess the speaker is also a lightweight speaker (though by no-means a light weight sounding cab!!!). The specifics will have to be addressed by Doc himself.

One more question for those who have seen the amp, or for Z himself: effects loop?
My hope is yes, since the loop is standard these days on the MAZ series.

Sorry no room, three footswitches, 3 speaker outs, and a 1/2 power switch surely fills the rear panel. Blame the tube driven Tremolo....
