Hi,
I have a KT-45 I play full out through a vintage Marshall 4x12....and absolutely love the sound (of course). The volume is very loud though (even with a Hot Plate)...does anyone know if Dr Z makes a small combo that's generally equivalent to a KT-45 cranked....but at lower volumes (loud enough for a band, though)? Probably not possible but if anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it. I'm considering a Vox AC15 but would prefer to stick with Dr Z...might even go with a Z Best cab but don't think it would drop the volume enough.
Thanks!
Shawn

MAZ Jr NR will get you closer than the AC15 IMO, crank the tone stack wide open and set the volume master and cut to get it where you want it.
Same beast. NO. Close enough and Killer. Yes.
One of my Favorite tones was Eddie Shaver, '55 Strat> 100 watt Hi Watt> 4x12.
I can pull convincing tones with my Strat and Jr NR.
Tubes and speaker selection and adequate time with settings and she'll do it IMO>
Curt
BTW, I don't think a Z Best is any quieter than a quad.

hey guys, first time posting here, so hello all!! I currently own a KT 45 with a 4x10 Z cabinet (open back and 4 ohm)... and yes, its loud as hell... i've been struggling with sound men for years... Maybe you should consider the Z air brake?? never tried it,... kinda pricey, but sounds like it works... guess its similar to your hot plate though, huh? I own a vox ac15 and i'll tell you it sounds great, but in a band situation, don't expect to both hear it and get a real clean tone from it... unless you get your soundman to run it through the monitors, which i can't stand hearing my guitar through a cheap wedge monitor,... But aaahhh... i discovered an option for my KT45 that both helped give me a little more break up and a little less overall volume - change the solid state rectifier to a tube rectifier - use a 5AR4 ( i believe that's it, i'll check and let you know for sure) but the bias between the 2 rectifiers are so close that you can basically change them out without rebiasing. Helpful? hope so,.. and hope i didn't sound like a complete dork on my first post! heheheh...

The Z brake helps a lot with the sheer volume of the 45.

Hi All,
Myles recommended using EL34 tubes with a lower number to get breakup sooner on my KT-45. Have any of you tried that? The stock EL34s on the KT come with #6. I'm hoping this will retain that tone I love.
