I just purchased an ASAT Bluesboy 90 (yes, another attempt at modern country by a pentatonic blues player, and let me tell ya, it ain't pretty!). I took it out this past weekend and so far, so good. The bridge pup has some nice brightness without being too trebly. If you've got or played an ASAT, tell how ya like 'em and what you might have modified on it. kc

I have an ASAT Classic in 2 tone sunburst, which I love. The only "mod" I've done to it is slap on a set of strap locks.
This, to my ears, is what a tele-style guitar should sound like. I'm not put off at all by the7 1/4" radius - properly set up it plays just as smoothly as any more "modern" guitar.
Nice instrument!

I have two ASAT Specials. One is a three bolt from the early '90s and the other I got in fairly recently in a silver sparkle. No pics of the newer one, no mods on either, just rock 'em!

I have an ASAT Classic as well. I wanted more of a Tele sound so I replaced the MFG pups with Lollar Vintage T's - love it (as well as my G&L Skyhawk).
BUT, for the last year or two I've been looking for a Bluesboy. I'm afraid if I actually sit down with one, I will be the 2nd Bluesboy in my home.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Strap locks - yup, they went on first thing, along with a graphite string tree.
Alot of my pre-buy research indicated that, if you wanted an equivalent quality Fender Tele, you'd have to spend around 50% more than for an ASAT. It looked like an ASAT was a good value.
I like the MFD pickup in the bridge, and I realized I could easily enough swap it out for another single coil if I wanted (as opposed to trying to swap the larger MFD single coils in many other ASAT models).

Used G&Ls are an incredible bargain, for the most part.

I have two G&L ASAT Classics. One is an early three bolt on w ebony board and it's jet black w MOT pickguard. The other is a Classic S with deleted F hole. That's a fancy way of saying it's pretty much hollow on the inside and has a one piece gun oil tint maple neck. That guitar is a beast. I love both of them. I've owned Betty (the black one) for about 20+ years. She was my birthday present for my 19th bday. The only mod was to remove the brass saddles and put graphtechs on there. They're ok and I've never broken a string on the bridge on that guitar. The other one,Mojo, is bone stock. It has a lot of options- 5 way strat switching, 2 G&L MFDs for and ASAT and the middle pup is from a G&L S-500 and you can pull up on the volume pot to add in the neck/bridge depending where you are on the 5 way. I tried a set of handwound pups in Betty and I preferred the stock ones. They have more b@ll$ and tone than the custom jobbers did. I think they're great instruments.

I have two ASAT's. Both USA models. One is a special totally stock. Love those large MFD pickups. It's heavy, but very resonant. That was my $400 pawn shop find. The other ASAT is a thin line deluxe. I replaced the Duncan pups. I felt the bridge was too nasally and the neck too dark. My tech suggested some tradition pickups ( they were inexpensive and he new the folks) they are more to my liking. One day I'd like to try a set of Lollar El Rayos in there. G&L is a great value especially if you can find them used.

I've had a pile of them, Classic's, Special's, Bluesboy's - all great guitars. I love the tone of a Tele but always fought with playing one. Just never felt right, I suppose, but my ASAT's were outstanding guitars. I want to buy one darn near every time I see one, and this thread isn't helping! This one was my favorite. A semi-hollow Special. Flame maple top, ebony board with a 12" radius. Killer. I actually owned this twice. I also had an ASAT Classic in orange that a friend and I each owned twice. I used to tell him we fell victim to "Boomerang GAS".

Love that middle pup! I was thinking about doing that myself, but when I pulled the pickguard off I discovered that the pups are rear-routed, & underneath the guard was a beautiful top! If it wasn't for the screw holes, I'd have left it off... I have two G&L ASAT Classics. One is an early three bolt on w ebony board and it's jet black w MOT pickguard. The Classic S has a small pool rout under the pick guard. Will try to find a pic I took of it when I had it apart. The rest is normal tele fare. They make beautiful guitars that are highly underrated IMHO.
