I'm asking about neck finish between the frets. My MiM Tele has worn off Fender's original finish and I'm down to bear wood in about half dozen places. The guitar is about 3 yrs old, been my main guitar all that time. I had the fret wired changed to SS just after a years time.
Certainly doesn't affect playability or tone any that I can perceive, however it just looks like an attempted relic gone bad as the rest of guitars finish is ok.
Prior to the factory finish coming off I saw little bubbles of finish lifting up, then my nails just scraped them bubbles off, so I don't think this is just wear related.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I know I had maple strat (am/lonestar) years ago that kind of was losing the finish quicker (after 1 yr).I think sweat/if your air is salty as your in carribean would have an affect.

I had an AmDlx Strat with a maple board that started wearing in spots. The rest of the guitar was spotless. I'm in the, "I think it looks cool" camp.

A badge of honor in wearing off the finish perhaps if I felt it was all my doings. That's why I asked about the little bubble ups and if others have seen this on their boards.
In any even it does look cool and I can say "I did that" :>)

If your fingers are getting hung up on the edges some super fine steel wool could help that.
You can put a little oil on the bare wood to protect the spots if you like.

Forgot to mention the bare spots are all under the 3rd string at frets 3,5,6,7,8, peculiar, eh!

Can you post a pic? Sounds like it may have had a hairline finish crack that allowed some moisture in and may have caused bubbling. Just a guess here.
