Give it a sweet paint job and it could pass for a WGS BlackHawk HP. Oops, I've said too much...

Wow...I'd put that in an open-backed cabinet just to look at it. That looks sweet and I'm sure sounds just as good.
I'll be keeping an eye out for these for sure.

I thought the Gold at 50 watts was enough. And this new creamback alnico is still a 100db speaker.
Why would someone buy it over the gold? (other than the extra wattage?)

This might be nice with one of my Red Plates. Wouldn't have to worry about hitting a loud note.

Must be new at NAMM 2015, which is happening right now. They've also introduced a "G15 V100 Fullback" 100 W 15" speaker. Interesting... they're actually introducing speakers into market segments that Eminence & WGS have been quite successful in--a role reversal, for sure.

Depends how hard you hit the speaker and how much you want the speaker to give. I've had 50 watt webers alnicos for years...two of them is just the right amount of give with any amp under 50 watts. As a rule, I always use about double the wattage as what the amps put out...just seems to work for me. All else being equal, higher wattage speaker seem smoother and less prone to get mushy when driven.

Give it a sweet paint job and it could pass for a WGS BlackHawk HP. Oops, I've said too much... A common misconception is that the Blackhawk HP is a higher wattage Blackhawk (Celestion Gold). It has it's own thing going on for sure and according to the WGS guys it's completely different with regards to the cone and dustcap. It's more of a replacement for an old EV SRO. But yea, the fact that the new Cream Alnico is 90 watts maybe says they are trying to compete with some of the other successful companies out there. And maybe I'm out of touch here but I seem to be seeing a trend toward low wattage amps, yet the new speakers coming out are in the higher wattage range. Crazy times are a foot. I know that personally, I can't crank a 30, 40, or 50 watt amp - so I tend to stay 22 watts and lower.

"We've learned a lot since releasing the Gold 8 years ago, and the Cream really does nail the tone of a old Blue, but stays controlled under power. Yes it's 90 watts, but it was designed to still sound nice with lower powered amps. We should have them in our CA warehouse in early March (8ohm first and then 16ohm soon thereafter). All of that aside, I still gig with a Gold and love it, so happy days!"
"I can pick the Gold out on a blind listening test every time, but I do not have as much time with the Cream (though I was one of the guys to give it the tonal blessing). That said, people mix Blues and Gold's together, so why not. The Gold is more of a modern Alnico, whereas Cream is very much like a Blue, so there ya go! "

I just read an article in Guitar Player mag and it says this speaker is a higher wattage Alnico Blue Clone? I never bonded with blues, they were just too Flabby not enough Bottom, however with a Gold or a Ceramic mix it may have worked fine, I also used with a RAY amp and nothing else, cant wait to hear how the stack up on the Bottom, would be a great speaker for my Higher watt amps

Just ordered one from Sweetwater...
Nathan said they sound great. Less highs and more low's than the Gold. Also, higher headroom. Not sure how that = more like a Blue, but bet it's a great speaker.
Gonna try it in my Maz Jr Studio~
