Hello , anyone use these power tubes in there ray ? I haven't been able to find much info on them , One site says there very close to the preferred series 7089 ( I think that's the number ) but wanted to ask the pro's. I have a set in the way but if there not recommended I'll use them for spares .

Wish I was ... because I would be a lot warmer (I live in Montreal, Canada)! I'm really looking forward to your impressions. I'm staying tuned.

Well I didn't get try the tubes back to back as planned, one of the jj's redplated when I first turned the amp on so now I still need another set of tubes for spares. But talk about timing , I'm not sure how old the jj's were but they still sounded pretty good. The tung Sol are definitely a robust tube with more low end , I immediately was reaching for the tone knob and backed it down from one o'clock to about 11, the added bass was very noticeable and had more thump , they are not as bright / chimely or open sounding as the others but they may be a touch cleaner with a little more headroom. They sound great and would definitely by again. So now have to figure what to get for backups or to try next. This is sure getting expensive fast.

Thanks for the review. From your desription it doesn't sound like what I'd be looking for. I like bright/chimey. My Stang Ray shipped with Electro-Harmonix. So far I'm happy but will eventually change to JJs.

Hello all, I have some interest in these tubes for my Ray as well. I got my Ray last August. It shipped with Electro-Harmonix as well....which I think sounded great. I had a rect. tube go out on me...so the power tubes got replaced as well. I went with JJ's. I don't think they sound as good...IMO. They are good...not great! I'm thinking of keeping the JJ's as backup tubes and trying these Tung sol's out or going back to Electro-Harmonix. Any other suggestions??? I've read that the EF86 is where you want to upgrade...so I'm reading Z-talk every day to find out what to go with.

JJs tend to sound thick and ballsy IMHO.

Hello Teleplayer59! Welcome to the Z-talk forum! Lots of great people on here!
I'm digging the JJ's MUCH more with an upgraded EF86 and Rectifier tube. I don't think they sound better than the E-H's even with a better EF86 in there.
Awesome looking Ray and 2x12. I love that strawberry blonde look.
