I have a Fender 59 Bassman Reissue. It does not have 1/4" instrument plugs or sockets for the speaker connection. It has phono plug connections. I found a wiring harness at Weber Speaker that converts the phono connections to 1/4" so I can use it with my Airbrake. Very cool!

Make sure your amp's output impedance is between 4 and 16 ohms. If not it may not be safe to use the Airbrake. This comes up here from time to time, and I know if your amp is typical, it will have a 2 ohm output impedance, which is not recommended with the Airbrake. Be very careful.

I just downloaded the Airbrake Manual and it says nothing about an ohm restriction. How can I verify that?

Hi Stephen, I had one of the '59 Bassman reissues that came out in the '90s and it was definitely 2 ohms. I know absolutely nothing about the Airbrake or the later Bassman reissues.

Important point, to protect the output tranny of your '59 Bassman--when hooked up through the AirBrake, regardless of what the actual speaker load is, your amplifier's output section is going to see 8 ohms almost all the time (unless of course it's on the "bypass" setting, where it does see the actual speaker load).
So basically... speaker wiring harness into the Weber adapter... Weber adapter into the Airbrake.. and Airbrake into the 8 ohm output of the amp (if it has one).

^ Following up on my point above... if your '59 Bassman reissue is expecting to see 2 ohms at its output, then I wouldn't be 100% comfortable feeding it a load of ~8 ohms from the AirBrake. That's a mismatch by a factor of 4× (2 --> 4 --> 8).

There is no 8 ohm input in the amp. It is 2 ohm. Thank you for your help. I'll email Z support and see what they say. There is nothing in the manual.

Dr Z confirmed what you said. You can't use an Airbrake with a 2 ohm load.
Thanks for the heads up.
Airbrake for sale! Haha!

Glad to hear you got a "confirmed" answer, even though it wasn't maybe what you wanted. If you're still interested in an attenuator for your 2-ohm output Bassman, I'd check out this Weber MASS (it has a switch for 2-ohms), or the 2-ohm THD Hot Plate.

Thanks to Nicholas, I bought a beautiful Weber Mass 50 on BST. It has a 2 ohm switch, so I can use it with my 59 Bassman. Thanks Z-Talk!
