I use my Maz 8 for my church playing or small venues. In the last few years a lot of guitarist I've played along side have gone direct into a Line 6 or something 1/3 the price because of volume issues as well as grab and go. I haven't reached that point, and don't see it in my future.
But at rehearsal this week I go to set up my "boutique" gear as it is called, and as soon as I power up the Maz I hear loud static - like I've never heard before. And right away I smell smoke - electrical kind of smoke. I look in the back and my ONE power amp tube is going out in all it's glory. I thought "How can this happen? I've never had this happen before!" But as I look back it has been probably 8 months, and the worse feeling is that I'm dead in the water because I don't bring back up tubes to the small gigs - only the BIG ones with the Z28 or Remedy.
Hard lesson learned for the old man who prides himself on nice gear. And, the amp still has that "fried" smell that will dissipate soon I hope. Tubes ride along everywhere now, just like everyone else does - right?

That's why I always carried that EH 44 Magnum. Too bad it happened when it did , but it rarely happens at a good time.

That is a bummer especially in front of the line 6 guys.

When I was playing out a lot, I always carried an extra head...usually a Monza or an M12. I've been risky lately....this may be what I've needed to make me more responsible. Sorry it had to happen to you, Steve.....Hope the Peavey guys at church didn't give you too much shxx.....

That is a bummer especially in front of the line 6 guys. I've got my "sonic" man-card with Z's. I live 2 minutes from the church, and within 15 minutes it was blooming again. I will take my tone (and feel) over the digital any day (even after watching Lincoln Brewster gig rigs!)
But, if I was far from home when this happened

I have a matched pair of Power tubes, a rectifier, proper fuses, and both preamp tubes in a nice little package that fits inside my guitar case

I have a Shure Microphone pouch velcroed to the inside of my Combo. It has 2 ECC83s and 2 EL84s in it.

I have a little emergency kit I always toss into my gig bag--strings, stringwinder, leatherman tool, spare tubes and fuses, picks, bandaids, etc. I also generally bring along my Orange Micro Terror as a spare amp--at 20 watts it's plenty loud for small clubs.

Like some of the other folks here I carry my spare tubes in another amp head so I don't mess anything up, but I really should do something like this for those quick one-set festival gigs where I don't necessarily feel like bringing two heads.

My "trouble" bag has tubes, fuses, extra cables AND an EHX 22, baby sibling of the 44 that Frank mentioned. I prefer to keep a separate small gig bag with just the stuff I know I will use, like my regular cables, picks, etc., and hope that I don't need to fetch the trouble bag. (I could stuff all that in a guitar gig bag, but in the rotten weather we've been having I've preferred to keep the guitar in its hard case.)

I always worry that my tubes are going to get damaged if I carry extras in a gig bag...
maybe THIS is the reason ive been looking for to get that Z lux - you know, for safety reasons...
