Hi Guys, I'm new here. This forum was recommended by Zed as a resource for Dr. Z amps, since I've just purchased my first one - the M12. Looking forward to playing it (it's at my folks in Ohio until they visit or I go grab it). By the looks of things, I may need to grab some different speakers to add warmth. I'll try it first and see how it goes. See you guys around the forum

Welcome to the forum! There are a lot of great people and a lot of information here! Take the time to look at the M12 section here. It's also worth reading the Dr. Z website - ton of info buried in there. Where are you living - might be able to hook up with some Z bros to help you on your journey. Have fun!

I'm trying to dive in to the Z world myself and I'm seriously considering the M12. Thanks for the info!

Welcome klonsolo (and thebuffness)! The M12 is great--I love mine, which is a 1x12 combo with Scumback M75-PVC speaker (one of the countless variants of the "greenback" style speaker). Most all "greenback" style speakers--the "M" small ceramic magnet ones, not so much the "H" big-magnet ones--that I've tried sound great with the M12. The alnico-magnet G12 Blue is also a good one to consider, although a bit more expensive. If you have the 1x10 version, there's a G10 Greenback by Celestion (and also one by WGS Speakers now, too) that would be quite nice.
Overall, the M12 is an excellent introduction to Z-amps, with a nice transparent tone and a very manageable volume control.

Thanks Mark. Right now I'm just trying to gather as much info as possible and trying to decide whether the M12 would be a good fit for me as I will have to buy without test driving one. I'm either leaning towards an M12 and a Maz 18. What I'm struggling with is whether I will really miss built-in reverb and an effects loop.

It comes with verb and an effects loop if you want those.

Thanks Ray. I'm just waiting for my 30 days to be up so I can start looking for a used M12 on here.

You're welcome - You'll find a lot of good folks here.
The M12's a great amp. A 2x12 can make it sound huge.
Be sure and let us know how it goes.

Hey!!!
I thought I had my notifications on, but no one wanted to talk to me...haha.
My folks bailed on coming to canada, so I'm still Z-less. It's making me crazy. If they don't come soon, I'll have to meet them somewhere in the middle.

Hi, I also just bought a M12 combo, and I love it. Used to use a Deluxe Reissue. And yes this forum and the people at Dr Z can be very helpful. My only concern is that some of my transparent overdrives don't sound good with it, but that just meant I had to buy new ones, and who doesn't like buying new pedals?! Enjoy your amp!

I agree a 2x12 paired with the M12 can make it sound very big, much bigger than the combo or 1x12 variants. I've been running a M12 + Z-Best cab for almost 2 & 1/2 years now. It's been my favorite amp rig to date.

Hey, I'm a new M12 owner, and it would be well worth the trip to meet your folks to pick yours up!!! Chad - I also agree with Jefferson, stack a clean boost with your overdrive - I'm running an EP boost into a Morning Glory, the boost makes a huge difference. BTW am running into the M12 "LO" setting. Of course, new pedals are always great to test drive....

I run an EP Booster into basically every overdrive I have tried with the M12. In fact the EP stacked into HBOD has been my #1, main, "go-to" overdrive sound for almost 3 years now with no variance. Sure I've tried other OD pedals but this combination has always remained.
