Hookay...I'm doomed. After playing Mike's Monza combo yesterday, I've gotta have one. The only question now is whether to go combo or head/speaker. I'm leaning toward combo since I like the simplicity of grab-n-go. To those who own one already, if you were to buy it again would you get a head or a combo? The one I played yesterday is a combo w/10" Z branded speaker, and it really has that "Billy in a Box" tone going on. Amazing. The simplicity of the 10" combo is really, really attractive to me. But...can a 12" do even better? I'm not talking about screaming loud, now...just tonal authenticity. I've got a 12" Z cab loaded with an 8 ohm Creamback G12M65, and a Thiele cab that I'm going to load with an 8 ohm EVM12L on the way. Plus a Marshall 4x10 1965 cab, and a couple of 2x12s. So I'm really torn about which way to go with this one. It makes sense to get the head, but I was blown away by Mike's combo. Probably better flip a coin on this one!

Head. You'll get more options with all your cabinets. The 4x10 will make you weak in the knees. YMMV

I'd keep my 1x10 combo. Easy to pic up and go and as you noticed yesterday - it sounds great!

I'd go with the 110 combo. It's not much bigger than a head so you can put it on top of the cabs you already have and use it as a head and if you want a grab and go it's ready. Not to mention a Y cable and you can go 110 and 112 at the same time. One of my favorite combinations.

I agree with Marc. Since you already love what it does as a 1x10, using it with other cabs will be a great option. Grab n' go when you want, or change your tone up a little with other speakers. I was really surprised how it sounds so excellent with a "broken-in" 1x12 Gold...

I really like it as a 1x10 combo, especially with the Ramrod speaker (less ridiculously loud than the Red Fang). So I voted for the 1x10 combo. But for "tonal authenticity," I wonder if the 1x12 combo with a G12H-30 Anniversary might be even better (and also quite loud). I've got absolutely no regrets about mine in the 1x10 combo, though--it's one butt-kickin' little monster of a tone machine!

I bought mine in a 1x10 combo but I pulled it out and put it into a head.....I love having it in the head because it's easy to mix and match speakers with it......but the 1x10 was pretty great and with the master volume the Red Fang can be well behaved.
Tuff choice. I'm gonna vote head

With the combo if you can unhook the speaker and run an extension cab with a speaker cable then best of both. Grab and go when wanted or take the combo and another cab and run it into the speaker cab.

You already have a mini z with the 110, yes? If you get the Monza in a 112 or a head configuration, you can swap it and the mini around wherever you like...

I didn't realize that the chassis were the same size. I bet the Ramrod would sound great with the Monza. It does with the Mini driving it.

I like the 1x10 Combo myself. As others have said, you can power external cabs or grab 'n go

I'm going to go for the 1x10 Red Fang equipped combo. That's the same setup that I played at Jaguarguy's (Thanks, Mike!) home a few weeks ago. I can always pick up a head cab somewhere, but I think it's going to spend it's life as a combo. I can't get that tone out of my head. What a great amp. "Little Red Monster" indeed! Can't wait. I should have the bread in the bank tomorrow to place my order.

YAY, Congrats my fellow Z-er!!! What color did you opt for, and did you get the post phase inverter master volume? You will love it, plus it helps that you got to sample it first. I had to order it based on online sound clips.

Red w/salt & pepper grill cloth, and I'm pretty sure PPIMV is standard on new Monzas. I'll make sure when I order. Found out today that the money is delayed 48 hours, bummer!

Yup, PPIMV is standard on new Monzas. I found a new old stock one and had it retrofitted in the back because I like the big "Monza" on the front panel which was lost with the PPIMV in the front. It delayed my arrival a bit, but I prefer that look. Silly, aye?

Mine is "out for delivery" today. And I'm headed to a jam tonight. I'll let you know how it works out.

How cool is that!!! I'm anxious to hear how it works out! Be sure to take tubes and fuses with you. New tubes can have a problem with "Infant Mortality" where they fail in their first few hours of use...doesn't often occur, but it has been known to happen. I gotta tell you, it was so easy to dial in a GREAT tone with that Monza when I tried Mike's (jaguarguy) out. I think you are going to get some compliments on your sound tonight.

The amp was delivered at four. I just had time to ensure that it was working before going to the open jam. I had no idea how to set it up so I just set all the knobs at noon. The other guitar player was miked through the PA and I had no trouble keeping up. The fellow that runs the jam was impressed.
I am looking forward to experimenting with it this weekend.

Cool...what speaker did you get, Stephen? Did you go with the 10" Red Fang combo, or a head and speaker cab?

I've had a week or so to live with my new Monza and I have to say that there's a lot more to it than I originally thought. There is an interaction between the tone and drive controls that seems like it is both subtle and dramatic, if that makes sense. At first, I thought that it was strictly a one trick pony, but it is turning out to be much more than that. I've got it set up with an A/B box on my pedalboard, to switch between amps for lead/rhythm tones. It really is cool...check out the picture in my avatar. That's my Therapy on top of a 1x12 with the Monza perched on top. Makes for a great stack, but I think it sounds better with the Monza on the floor...the bottom end holds together better. The bassist in our band was over the other night for a session rehearsal and when I switched from the Therapy to the Monza, you should have seen his eyes light up! He looked at that little red combo with a huge smile and said, "WOW!!!". That kind of sums it up. What a great amplifier. I totally understand why some of us have entire rooms full of Z amps. I'm making progress toward my own 'muZeum'!
