Well after that wank yesterday I was shamed into trying to rush through a real clip... I've always wanted to do Blue Jean Blues in a band, but I don't sing, and someone has to if you're going to do it, so it just has never happened. But it's still one of my favorite tunes, so I thought why not try a couple bars here... I used Acid Pro to find a drum loop that was close enough, then I set the Stingray's tone all the way to the bassiest tone it can do and played some pretty weak bass into the recorder. Then I digitally lowered it's pitch an octave - not really very convincing bass, but it's what I have here! I played the lead track in and thought it needed some background, so went back and played a bit of background in. Here are the settings: Another G-System Clip Grosh Bent Top Custom > G-System > RC Booster > Stingray > Airbrake > Celestion Alnico Blues RC Booster had all knobs at noon except volume was at 11 o'clock G-System had compressor and delay on. Left mic: Rode NT-1 close to the front of the cab. Right mic: Rode NT-1 about ten feet back, six feet in the air. Lead track was all the neck pup on the Grosh Background track was neck/middle. Bass was Grosh neck pup > Stingray with tone all bass, then drop an octave using Acid Pro. Drums were done in Acid Pro BlueJeanBlues.mp3

Great tones, Steve. You have all the cool toys! ;D
Ya know, I haven't been jonesin' for a Stingray, even though they are quite cool. But you get some awesome sounds with it.
That G-System sounds like a killer unit. The delays & compression are clear & distinctive, but don't sound "digital" at all on the recordings.
Dig it-

Hey, in case you really care what I think... Okay, nice clip. But, after listening to this one, I went back and listened to your "Wank-O-Verb" clip to see if I remembered what I remembered. There is just something about the tone, dynamics, "edgy-ness" on that one that floats my boat. Hard to put my finger on it. Is it the BB instead of the RC, the bridge pickup instead of the neck, a combination? I don't know, but it all made for a really nice recipe to my ears. Of course, this is my very humble personal opinion. So, I'm saying if you want to sit down and record something less rushed, but with THAT tone...well, I'll buy all your CD's, join your Official fan club right away and have your name tatooed in a "special" place! ;D ( Operators are standing...bye) Ray K.

YIKES! Actually, on the Wank-o-Verb clip I wasn't paying close attention and had the cut on the Stingray significantly higher than I normally run it. This clip had the cut at about 10 o'clock, but on the other one it was sitting up around 2 o'clock, which puts a lot more edge on the tone. Good ear Ray. As for the tattoo... not so much... ;D Since I don't seem to have any gigs just now, you can expect some more clips. Maybe I'll slow down and try to work up something I'm proud of, that doesn't need a load of disclaimers in the description.... yeah, that's the ticket!

Found out that "special" place where I was going to have the tattoo has since gone out of business...whew! ;D Are you threatening me again?! Ray K.

Nice clip; sounds awesome. Great playin' too. Thanks for sharing.
I've got a buddy that has the g-system and he swears by it as well. Played with him last Sunday and it did sound good.

That is honestly some of the best tone I've ever heard in a Stingray clip! Kudos and well done!

That is honestly some of the best tone I've ever heard in a Stingray clip! Kudos and well done! Well thanks! That amp has a lot of cool tones in it, if you plug in a decent guitar and run a decent box or two in front of it. I'm blown away by how flexible it really is - much more so than I could have imagined when I first got it. Been playing it in blues bands, rock bands, and of course it does country pretty nice too... I think I got a keeper there!
