First, a thousand pardons for the length of this - but I had already killed the .wav before I realized the .mp3 is just over 10 megs. Sorry about that - but you know, when you're wanking, time just slips away... And the .wav was over 100 megs, so you can see why I let it flow to the bit bucket. This clip was unplanned actually - I have been working on different patches for the G-System here, and was sitting in front of the cab and got this amazing sustain thing going with a hall reverb patch I was working on. So I hopped up and switched on the 01V96 and turned on Vegas Audio for a few minutes. Somewhere in the middle of all this wanking I just got into a weird version of Hey Joe - this was right after I switched the reverb off and the delay on. Pure wankage, warts, clams, pitchiness, and all. Here are the details: G-System Clip Grosh Bent Top Custom > G-System > BB Preamp > Stingray > Airbrake > Celestion Alnico Blues BB Preamp had all knobs at noon except treble at 9 o'clock. G-System had Compressor on, and BB Preamp in the loop. First portion had Hall reverb. Second portion had delay. Left mic: Rode NT-1 close to the front of the cab. Right mic: Rode NT-1 about ten feet back, six feet in the air. This was all the bridge pup on the Grosh. And the Wank-o-Verb clip: TheWankO_Verb.mp3

Yes, I liked your playing as usual... but, smokin' tone-age, Steve! Glad your new rig is working out for you so far. Nice sounding effects. Thanks for the sound clip. Man, I keep getting tempted to spring for a BB preamp. I know it will be nice, but I keep telling myself that I have enough dirt/gain/OD pedals. So you prefer it in the loop of your Stingray versus in front? Can't wait to get my bridge pickup from Fralin. My BTC is in it's case until the new pickup arrives. I sent it out Monday. Ray K.

Actually the way the G-System architecure works, you plug your guitar into the A to D, it routes it through some "before the preamp" effects like Wah/Filter, Compressor, etc., then D to A's the signal and routes it to four programmable loops BEFORE you send the signal to the amp's preamp. Then you take the amp's loop and hook that in so that the remainder of the effects appear between the preamp and power amp. That way you keep effects that want to be in front of the preamp, in front of the preamp. Since the A to D and D to A are running at 96KHz (just like a studio recorder) there is no perceptible change to the signal from that. I'm pretty fussy about presenting exactly what my guitar put out at the front end of the amp, and from what I'm hearing the G-System is doing that right. So in this clip, as far as the BB Preamp goes, it's in front of the Stingray (between the guitar and amp) right where you expect it to be.

Isn't it supposed to be hooked into the flip side of the cankerzam so the flywheel doesn't hit you in the backside? While we're at it, how's your stock of unobtanium holding up? That's what I thought! ;D Okay, so I finally threw in the white towel today...have a BB ordered! Ray K.

...so the flywheel doesn't hit you in the backside? Ray, I love it when you talk dirty to me... You won't be disappointed unless you are...

You won't be disappointed unless you are... I are. It arrived Monday, I quickly put in on the pedalboard pretty much first in the chain. Dialed everything to high noon initially. Disappointed! I tried different guitars. It just wasn't going to get it. Tried placing in other sections of the chain, including last. Putting it last, after my compressor did "open" it up, but I just couldn't seem to bond with it. Oh well, I tried one and learned - I'm satisfied with my current lineup. Done! Now I can afford to get one of Hump's wah's! Ray K.

I find if I have the gain up too high it gets a bit mushy (like the Badge clip I put up here). I tend to forget and keep cranking it up and then wondering where my articulation went. But if I maintain some control, I think it sounds pretty great with my Stingray and my Strat and Tele. I'm not sure I'd like it with either of my PRS's though.

Steve, I'm not a multieffect-natic, for that "plastic tone " I often hear, but I like the way you don't ABUSE it: with so many effects to combine in so many ways you keep 1 or 2 max effects engaged, so your tone doesn't alterate. Nice sound

Nice sound I'm totally with you there Doc. I hate to hear guitar with nine effects on - just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I'd been thinking about getting one for some time, but the clip in this post is what gave me the extra push. I tried the Gain control from one end to the other. In fact, I preferred less with this pedal. Like I said, it gains up really quick, so a little goes a long way, IMO. Well, my "main" pedal is still the MI Audio Tube Zone. I don't see anyone else using one here, and when I mention it I don't get many responses. That's cool! I have the latest version with six knobs. It does take awhile to dial in. But, it's working great for me. But, you might try one and not care for it either. So, at least it's not like I'm still on a search. I've found it, and I'm done! Really....now stop laughing! Ray K.

Who's laughing? I've been done hundreds, no, thousands of times. Actually the reason I have the BB is that I wanted an MI Audio Crunch Box, and it was unobtanium here in the Seattle area. But the BB was easy to get, so... Still like to try one of those Crunch Boxes. See? Told you I was done!

That sounded really great, my favorite 'G' clip so far. The feedback sounds really killer. I listened to the whole thing... twice. Pardon the ignorance, but what is the 'Benttop'? I realize its a Grosh brand, but is it a strat type? Again, thanks for sharing. Jason

When I first started out on the Internet back when Smokey Bear was a glimmer in his daddy's eye, I discovered that you need a login name to get to any of the forums I liked. But with a name like Steve, I quickly discovered that all the other Steve's had beat me there. I tried several permutations but every time I found one that worked, the next forum had a Steve that was already using that. Somewhere along in there I got my Bent Top Custom (which is a Strat variant) and I thought of using BentTop as a login. At first I did the camel notation (the two caps) but later I started just using all lower case. So far, since about 1997, I've only found ONE other benttop. So I'm benttop on all the forums! Works fine, lasts a long time! ;D
