Hello all! First post to Z-talk!! I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on the new Therapy. It seems like the perfect amp for me, because I love the tones I get from my Swart AST, but I'm tired of reaching for the controls in the back, there's no master volume, and I'm ready for a head cab configuration. I'm hoping to go and play a Therapy soon, but I figured I'd post a few questions here before I do. My main question has to do with volume. I'm finally moving out of an apartment into a house (yay!) so I no longer need the super quiet/sleeping baby volume levels, but in my small recording space I don't need an amp that starts at loud then goes up from there. Can this amp do proper TV watching volumes as well as bedroom volumes, or does it need a click or two of attenuation to help it? I'm considering the attenuator as another $200 I don't want to spend.... The 35 Watt rating is throwing me off, exactly how loud is this thing?? Is it louder than the Hot Rod Deluxe I used to have? I've just seen people play them in demos with the master cranked, and it doesn't seem to be blowing them off their chair... (side note: I'm planning on running it with a 1x12 V30 Z cab) Along with this amp, I've been considering the Z-28 and the Carmen Ghia, mainly for their lower price points. And let's face it, they ALL sound good!! However, both of those amps would require an attenuator, which is the reason I asked the question above. Would I be just as happy finding a used Carmen Ghia for around a grand, or do I go all in and check myself into Therapy? Thanks for any advice! -Jon

Welcome to the Forum Jon - a lot of great information and people here. The Therapy is a great amp. It sounds like the MV is exactly what you are looking for. It can be loud but the MV is amazing - you can play living room levels and then crank it up when you need it? Are you close enough to a dealer to try one out? If not maybe there is a Z-bro nearby that will allow you to demo the amp. Where are you located? If S.E. michigan you are welcome to try mine.

Located in central Alabama. There's a dealer two hours away from me in Montgomery. (I'll buy there too because I'm trading in my Taylor)
Thanks for the reply!

I've had my Therapy for a little over a month now and have played about 4 gigs with it. I'm used to a Remedy and I've noticed that the Therapy is not nearly as loud overall as the Remedy. I play pretty clean with some hair when the guitar volume is wide open. It's a very touch sensitive amp and it will give you what you put into it. Lots of variables including speaker selection will affect the overall volume output. I don't know what you are wanting from the amp (clean or drive) but I'm pretty sure whatever it is you can find it in the Therapy. The master and the volume work very well together. The CG is pretty loud when you get it going unless you like really clean. Same with the Z28.
By the way, welcome!

I have a Z28 and an EZG and they are both (to my ear) louder than the Therapy. I will say that the MV works awesome with the "T". However, one of my fav settings requires the MV to be at NOON and the other setting Ilike has the MV full blast with V at 9 O'clock (nice cleans with hair) When I do that that sort of thing I may use an air brake as well just to keep the neighbors happy.
As mentioned, the Speaker selection is crucial for whatever is it you want out of the T.

If you want raucous tone at low volume, the Therapy will do that more than the Z-28. (You can sort of get there with the '28 and an attenuator.) The Therapy's tone stack is superb. It is very easy to dial in for guitar, speaker and room. And, yes, it is in the Z Wreck's ballpark for touch sensitivity.

You'll be fine with this amp, no attenuator required. You can use one if you like running the power amp hot for a bit of power tube saturation, but it sounds like you'll love the MV as designed and it will do exactly what you're looking for.

jonb, Welcome to the forum, and you're in the right place for great advice on the good Dr's amps. I just got my Therapy and 1x12 convertible cab yesterday afternoon, and did my first gig with it last night. I hadn't even played the guitar that I used at the gig, and I was IMMEDIATELY able to dial in a great tone with my 335. This band is a 30's/40's Big Band jazz group, and everyone was going nuts about my tone after the gig. The Therapy is plenty loud for a big room, this show was a dinner show with about 300 guests seated in tables of 8 or so. I played fairly clean, had my guitar between 8 and 10, and I was plenty loud. I had the master at about 1:00 and the preamp at around noon. What a great amplifier. It's got a this really full bottom end without intruding into the bass player's frequencies, and the mids are big and fat, which matched the grand piano's voice. The high frequencies are sweet and bright without ever being brassy or ice picky...all this with a brand new amp/speaker that isn't even broken in. I had a blast with the amp last night. I have a Creamback in mine right now, but I have a Vintage 30 that is almost 30 years old that is going to go into the cab this morning. I've heard that the amp was designed with the Vintage 30 in mind, and I want to try my old speaker in there. That speaker was one of the first Vintage 30's made, and it's badged "Marshall" since it was stock equipment in my old "Studio 15" Marshall amp. I bet it's gonna be glorious, but the amp sounds soooo good with the Creamback that I'll be amazed if it sounds better with the Vintage 30. Anyway, on top of what I said, all the good stuff that you're hearing about the Therapy is true. It's a wonderful amplifier and I thoroughly recommend it. -Dave-
