Not sure that I like the G12H30 with my Rt 66. I prefer the sound of the C-Blue, but would like to find a speaker with more capacity. What do you guys like? Thanks.

Thanks, I figured as much. Good thing they are so cheap:)
To me, the G12H30 sounds rather sterile.

I'm using a Vintage 30 in a closed back Dr Z cabinet. Very nice.

Gold. Sounds great with the 66 I've tried it with a V30 and a Z-Best (which is awesome if you can handle the volume) and a gold and I have to say the gold was the best sounding to me. Too bad I don't own one - yet.

Thanks guys, I think I will replace it with a gold. I have not played the Route as much and I believe that it is the speaker match. The amp itself is great and I love the tone stack. I guess I just prefer the sound of Alnico speakers. I don't want to run the risk of blowing out my C-Blue.

That could be a good solution as well. Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the Eminence Tonker.
I've not spent a lot of time with one with the 66 tho'.
Good if you don't want speaker breakup.

A Tele is my favorite guitar with the Route 66. The thick notes and strong mids seem to make the Tele stand out with that amp.

An Eminence Private Jack is nice with the Route. I guess it depends on what sound you are going for. The Celestion Heritage G12H(75) is nice too.

Over five years I went: EV12 > Gold > Altec 417b
Most of the time was with the gold, which was really good, then discovered Altecs and I was done. Great speakers for that amp.

In general, I would not be in favor of a V30 with any of these amps that share the same preamp platform. (Z-28, R66 or KT-45)
Especially in an open back cabinet.

When I had my Route, I ran it through a 1x12 with a Creamback, and thought it sounded fine.

I have been playing mine through my C-Blue now for several weeks and must say that to me, it sounds so much better than my G12H30. It's like I discovered a new amp. I was thinking seriously about trading it for another amp, but not anymore. I love the big sound of the KT66's and the tone stack on the amp. Have to watch the volume though. May either buy a Gold or run a pair of Blues. The Route is starting to steal some serious time from my Ghia, which I didn't think was possible.

Blue Dog from Weber is a good choice. With Ceramic magnet it's only $112, Alcino $208 taweber.powweb.com/weber/I have an un-doped 50-watt Alnico that I've had since 2002. Love it.

I really think that I prefer Alnico magnets. They seem to sound more multi-dimensional to me. The C-Blue just blows me away.

Hard to beat the Rt 66 with the stock Zbest. A match made in heaven.

Hi there, anybody else thinks the R.66 sounds great with a Celestion Creamback? I am expecting a 1x12 loaded with a Creamback, with the goal of taming the loudness I was experiencing with the 4x10 "Z" cabinet. Thanks!

I play mine through a convertible 1x12 Z cabinet with a Vintage 30. Really love the Vintage 30 with the back open. Gives it a little more air and softens the punch.

I really like the G12H30 Anniversary in my 1x12" Dr Z cab, just bought a closed back cab with 2xG12H30 for even more ooomph and spread. Sometimes an open back cab is not ideal for live use if you don't have a wall right behind you.
I tried a 2x12" open back Two Rock cab with Celestion G12H-75 creambacks recently and it was really good sound too, full and fat but still open and wide.
I have to try something Alnico soon, my amp guru says it would be good for the 66 as the speakers also do some compression. I would like something less loud too, the 66 is way too loud for my small studio!

Going way, way back to the OP, the H30 does sound a bit flat to me as well, the Gold or a Creamback 65 are my favourites for a single speaker. 1 H30 and 1 greenback (the Matchless Cab) is probably my favourite pairing ever.

After 10+ years I still enjoy my Z 112 cab with V30 using my Z-28 .... all controls @ 2:00 and with a dual 'bucker guitar straight in ... that said, I dig that it aint everyone's cup of tea
And, I still love the combination of a RT 66 with the old style Z 210 cab
cheers always,

Howdy,
Joey, I must respect a feller who sticks to his guns, or in your case Dr.Z's 2-10 cab and speakers.

My three favorite speakers/cabs for my Rt 66 are my 2x12 Baltic birch floating baffle Eminence Legend GB, 2x10 solid pine floating baffle Eminence Legend 105 and a 1x15 solid pine floating baffle Celestion Fullback. I also liked the Z Speaker.
