Ok, boys & girls. Did several clips today with the new Peavey and the MAZ Jr. All the info is on the soundclick page. Settings were pretty much the same as I always run them on the clips. The one exception was that I used the amp's reverb on the "clean" clip. Not a bunch, but just a splash. Cool guitar, for sure... You should definitely be able to tell that's it's not your typical "Les Paul." Pretty unique timbres... One of the really cool tones I found, you'll notice on the clip with the Keeley DS-1 (NOT the one with the backing track.) Towards the middle of the clip, I switch to the middle position and roll the tone back a bit. Considering that Keeley's DS-1 one is supposed to be a "vintage Marshall in a box", the middle position with the tone rolled back gets a really cool "woman tone." Sort of has that flute-like carachter of the old Claptoon stuff... www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=465770And as always, I'm happy to answer any quiestions about the rig. J

Oh good, more JC clips! My only question is...how come doc, Robert, Hartley and all don't have you "officialy" doing clips for their products & websites?? ;D Dang Jayson, great stuff man...killer tones and monster smooth chops. I didn't know Peavey had this model out, on first glance reminds me of a PRS. $1900. bucks? Hmmm, that's a decent investment for an 'ole Tele player like myself!

That PV seems to have some really good tones in it. Sounds very LP-ish, but more subdued to my ears. It doesn't seem to have as much nasalness as a LP does. It's almost like someone recorded a LP, then fixed the phasing and EQ to make it sound smoother. Of course, doing so loses the "character" that makes a Lester sound like a Lester to me.
Maybe it's just the beauty of the Jr, but it actually sounds like the pups in it are pretty decent, eh?
I wonder what some Seth Lovers would do to an axle like that? Probably make it sound more "vintage" and less balanced.

Great tone Jayson

Well, I just got back from some tour dates in Canada with Carolyn Dawn Johnson, in which I took the Peavey to try it out. It's not really the "best" guitar for her stuff, as there aren't a lot of "LP" tones on her records. But I knew I could get away with using it in place of a Tele or Strat on a few tunes.
The pickups are *probably* not going to work for me... Although the jury is still out because I wasn't using *my* amps. These shows were fly dates with provided backline, so I ended up with a new ACC30CC2 on one show, a Deluxe Reverb reissue on the second, and a Korg AC30 with Greenbacks on the third.
The "new" AC30CC2 that I got on the first show was absolutely dreadful. Those Wharfdale speakers in that amp are pretty pathetic. Now, keep in mind that I'm running the amp with legit volume when doing a show with it. So maybe the Wharfdales would work fine at lower volumes for practicing or low-volume jams. But at performance levels, they were awful and very buzz-y, like a bad Boss DS-1. The Deluxe reissue I got on the second show "was what it was," so it was ok. I knew what I was getting there... The Korg AC30 I got last night wasn't all that great, either.... Although I have played through some nice ones, this one needed some TLC.
So the moral of the story is, I don't quite have a judgement on the Peavey pickups... But my gut instinct is to tell you that I'll end up putting some vintage-style 'buckers in it, because I'm really a "meat & potatoes" kind of guy when it comes to HB guitars.

I own a AC30cc that came stock with the Wharfdales.Horrible speaker with nasty brittle highs.I put a pair of blues in there and now it sounds really good.My Maz38 sounds much better so the Vox gets very little play.
Have you tried the Lollar Imperial humbucker?I put a pair in my TA Cobra and have been very impressed. They are wound around 8.5k so they sound very vintage.Best newer HB I've played.

The clips sound great.!
I dropped a set of those same pickups into a Hamer last year and really liked them through my Maz Jr and Z-28. They improved the clarity/balance of the sound vs. the hotter Duncans that came with the guitar.
Was considering much more expensive p'ups, but for the money, the Virtual PAFs seem pretty balanced and sensitive.
Thanks for sharing.
