Ok, I just finished my latest Warmoth Build. But this one is is MINE! No expense was spared....I didn't care how much it cost... I just knew "exactly" what I wanted. Warmoth Royale Body Seafoam Green with White Binding Chambered Alder Body with a Mahogany Top 25.5" Scale Birdsey Maple Standard Thin 10'-16" Compound Radius 6100 sized SS Frets Schaller Fine Tuning Tailpiece Gotoh 510 Bridge Gotoh Delta 510 Locking tuners (21:1) Ratio Earvana Nut. Joe Barden HB-Two Tone PU's (of course...lol) No PU Rings.... PU's mounted to the body. Master Volume, 2 Tone, 3 way switch Fender S1 Switches on the Tone Pots for the Coil Tapping I can honestly tell you...it is everything I wanted...and better than I could have hoped. I only wish I could have had it ready for my show 2 days ago... now I need to wait 2 weeks for the next gig. lol

Great looking axe. Love the color. The lack of p/u rings is interesting. Nothing to detract from the color of the instrument. Enjoy, bet it sound sweet.

Just so I have a point of reference, and if you don't mind, what was the total cost of the materials?
I am thinking about doing a "from scratch" instrument, hence my question.
Thanks.

Just so I have a point of reference, and if you don't mind, what was the total cost of the materials? I am thinking about doing a "from scratch" instrument, hence my question. Thanks. Well, that's a difficult question to answer... I'm in Canada so taxes/shipping/exchange rate are higher. And I am an Allparts dealer, so I get a bit of a discount on the hardware etc... Body/neck were about $1000 US PU's were about $400 Tuners were about $150 Earvana Nut $40 Schaller Tailpiece - $60 Gotoh Bridge $100 bunch of other smaller parts/switches etc... So I'm estimating about $2000 in total... I want to stress... that I didn't do it to save money. Generally you won't. I did it because I wanted a Les Paul style guitar with a 25.5" scale length. Once I decided to do it....things just kind of snowballed from there. LOL

Love it! Awesome color and really cool build specs. A 25.5 scale Lester has always been a curiosity of mine.

How do you like the neck joint and angle compared to a similar probably more angled LP? Do you hear it brighter than the shorter scale LP? That's a very handsome and unique guitar. Great build and thanks for posting.

Just curious what do those Joe Barden Humbuckers sound like? Well....they sound like high output..ultra-clear full-toned humbuckers. I'm not trying to be silly or sarcastic in my description at all. I'm actually trying to be honest. If you're looking for classic PAF tone.... they are not for you. They have a wider frequency response than a normal pickup. Because they are so clear....they sort of force you to be a better guitarist. Every mistake just pops out. Hope that helps...

How do you like the neck joint and angle compared to a similar probably more angled LP? Do you hear it brighter than the shorter scale LP? That's a very handsome and unique guitar. Great build and thanks for posting. The neck joint is something that I was a little worried about actually...but it is great. The heel is contoured so you don't really even feel the heel at all, and the neck pocket actually is angled so the neck comes back like a traditional LP. It's not straight, like a tele/strat. Yes, it is brighter than a LP, and that is a very large part of the reason I went with it. The other main reason is the string tension. I don't like the 24.75" scale length because with 10's the strings are too loose. With 11's the strings are at the right tension, but they don't have the snap/pop of a strat/tele. I've owned almost 10 LP's, and I was never really totally happy. There was always "something" I couldn't escape, and it was the scale length. I decided to get a 25.5" LP....and quickly realized that it's almost impossible. So I weighed my options, and made a LOT of emails/phone calls... and chose Warmoth. They certainly were not the cheapest....(by a long way) but I didn't find anyone else who could do what they do...with every option I wanted. Yes, I also could have made it myself....but I'm just too busy in the shop. I"m having a hard enough time to keep up right now. TWhen I added up the "cost" to take the number of hours it would have required to build it.... it was actually cheaper for me to pay Warmoth to do it. I'd still get paid by my customers, and I didn't have to take any time at all. Win/Win Thanks Everyone for all the kind words! I'm totally blown away by how great this thing sounds/plays. I wouldn't change a single thing about it. A few words of wisdom that I learned that I'd like to pass along. Make a spreadsheet of what you want....listing all the parts required to build the guitar and more importantly....WHERE you're going to buy the smaller parts. You'd be surprised how much the extra shipping costs add up to if you are not careful. Try to buy all of the small parts from the same place and combine the shipping. Even if the part is more expensive....it will probably be cheaper in the long run than buying the part cheaper somewhere else...and paying extra for shipping. Have a "clear" idea of what you are trying to achieve....from a tone, and playability standpoint. For example... Too many things that increase the brightness (Ash body, maple neck, Brass Nut, Titanium Saddles, Sustain Block, Bright/Underwound Pickups...etc..) might make the guitar unbearably bright. Obviously, every piece of the puzzle is important, but get an idea of what you want, and then choose the pieces that will "hopefully" get you in the right area. I chose Chambered Alder with a Mahogany Top....instead of the traditional Maple top of a Les Paul, because I knew with the longer scale length, it would be naturally brighter...so I chose a darker sounding top....to tame a bit of the brightness. Use some online guitar designers... like this one... www.frankmontag.com/editors.htmThat way, you are not flying blind... and end up with something that you're not happy with. Don't skimp on the copper shielding tape! For me it's like Frank's Red Hot..... I put that S&*$t on EVERYTHING! Don't just copy what Fender/Gibson do...a lot of their choices are made from a manufacturing perspective. Not because it's best for tone or the customer. Think about what you want to be able to do....and then find some way to do it. For example the S1 Switches on the Tone knobs. Or moving the 3 way switch from the Horn.... I've always hated that, because I kept changing the pickups when I didn't mean to. Think about what is right for you...and seriously ask yourself...is there ANYTHING about this design that I would do differently. After all, isn't that what a custom guitar is all about?

Can I ask why the alder body and mahogany top? I would've thought to go the other way around myself so I'm curious about the choice. Looks like an awesome guitar!!!!

Can I ask why the alder body and mahogany top? I would've thought to go the other way around myself so I'm curious about the choice. Looks like an awesome guitar!!!! Of course you can ask. I actually wanted it to be brighter than a regular LP. My favorite tele/strats are Alder, so it seemed like an obvious choice...but I wanted it to have a "little" of the LP sound, so I did a mahogany top. just to tame a "bit" of the brightness. I was worried that if it did Mahogany body, Alder top...it would be too muddy. And that is exactly what I "don't like" about a LP. So I switched it around, just to see. And I'm really glad I did. BTW...I had my first gig with it last night.... OMG! it is stunning. I never needed to touch the tuning all night. That's the first time ever. And the tone is EXACTLY what I envisioned. I could NOT be more happy with the guitar. I can't believe I waited so long to do one for myself, but I sure won't be waiting that long to do the second.....or third. lol.
