Hello all,
I am both a new poster and new KT-45 owner.
I purchased this new(it had been sitting in the show awhile) about 3 months ago and love the amp.
The second gig I used it on, the power started to "fizzle" strange sounds volume drop etc. Between sets, I took out the EF-86 and re-seated it and everything worked fine.
Is this indicative of a bad tube, something I should be worried about, or just part of life?
Thanks, Steve

Steve,
It is 99% most likely to be a tube problem. If you have a new production EF86 get an NOS one to replace it with. New production EF86s are notoriously famous for poor performance and realiability. I went with a GEC EF86 myself. The EF86 is a good place to start. Get a good one and see if that fixes the issue. If not then try the 12AX7 and the rectifier and the power tubes.

I had that same issue a few times, but thankfully never at a gig. Usually I turn off the amp, take a break, and it's working fine the next time. I am due for new output tubes I believe.

I have similar problem,as it turned out it was EF86 tube issue, put a new one in,back in business. I've stocked up a few EF86 tubes since then just for back up.

Interesting Skydog. I "assumed" that re-seating the tube was what did it....perhaps it was just giving it a break.
I have a NOS ef-86 in there (looks like the dario, but with different markings). I am going to stock up on backups. Are these amps hard on that tube?
Thanks for all of your input.

Interesting Skydog. I "assumed" that re-seating the tube was what did it....perhaps it was just giving it a break. I believe re-seating the tubes on a unit that has sat for some time is a wise thing to do and also fixed your problem. Slight oxidation between the pins and socket get cleaned when re-seating , nice snug connection , and positive transfer from tube to circuit. Like tightening the four mounting bolts to the chassis , this to is a maintenance procedure that should be done from time to time. DR.Z

Wow, straight from the horses mouth. Thanks for the input.
This is a really fun amp to play The funny thing is that I was certain the Stang Ray was for me, but played the two side by side and just kind of fell in love.
