kevinkopp.com/index.htmlI was reading about Ron Ellis pickups the other night and saw where Ron himself said he had been searching for a vintage J-45. He settled on a Kopp K-35. He bought it and said it was the best sounding J-45 type guitar he had found. Kevin worked in the Gibson custom shop before starting his on company. I love my Collings CJ, but this has caught my interest. G.A.S has set in.

My local store has a Collings CJ in stock that I'd love to check out. And, I'm actively avoiding going out there for fear it will come home with me. I don't play much acoustic, and the one I have is mid-level, and sounds fine. **** GAS.

Kopp makes some amazing Gibby-style acoustics.

This is what I'm talking about!! Love the way he he starts ending it a little past half way.....and takes the rest of the time to resolve it. Sweet! Mine will be here Wed. Great inspiration here. Then again, kinda makes me want to give up!!

I took delivery of a nice, used Kopp K-35 today. Love it! I've never played a 1941 Gibson J-35, but this is supposed to be about as close as it gets. Looks old, sounds old. I'd like to say it smells old, but doesn't have much smell. Has a cool vintage vibe that I really dig! Sad thing is, as I said earlier, if I kept this one, I now have to sell my Collings CJ. I love it too, but this Kopp has more what I want. The Collings is fancier and looks brand new....and smells new!

Congrats on a sweet looking and sounding guitar Mark. You can give her your own smell.

Very, very nice guitar Mark. Can't wait to see watcha' end up doin'. GAS is truly a dangerous phenomenon and the source of what could be a lot of joy or regret (not to mentioned depleted financial resources). Here's to the former...and none of the latter! Enjoy.

I'm glad that's not my decision. They both are beautiful. I'd probably try to make a case for keeping both. Congrats on which ever one you keep.

That is a tough call, Mark. Either way, you'll have a superb acoustic.

Thank guys! I am very thankful this Thanksgiving morning. I guess I wasn't clear. If I liked and kept the Kopp, I would need to sell the Collings. The Collings has been listed for sale. I love it, but can't justify both. I talked to Mr Kopp yesterday and he congratulated me on a fine purchase. He said the natural ones (blonde as he called it) are rare. He only makes about one a year. Great guy too!

Like the Doc it's so cool to be able to chat w the builder himself.that's a reason I love to support the independent luthier and amp builders. That's great he was available to speak to you about the guitar never mind that the blondes are more rare. Kinda like smart blondes- they're rare as hen's teeth.

I like the blonde over the sunburst. The pick guard has a cooler vibe with the blonde top.
Is it me, or does it look like the Kopp's body is kind of leaning towards the Collins to nudge it out of that picture saying "This is my house now."?

I took both these guitars over to my luthier, pickin' buddy's for a little inspection, jam & pep session. I have just about decided to keep both. Both are so nice, and although the same body shape, very different. Scale and tone. I think I would be making a mistake to see the Collings. The Kopp is here to stay!

Going by looks. I dig the Kopp best. We will expect an audio shoot-out soon Mark! And I'm sure it will sound as good as Guthrie.....

Wonderful! ........ that you only took a few days to justify both! Man, that is a choice I would NOT want to make...... so I respect your "choice" Looking forward to a video of them both ............................
