Well after a few months of searching around I finally spent some money and bought a 2013 american tele .
Back earlier this year someone stole my old tele I've had since 1990 and my favorite guitar so its been a hard search because everything I've tried hasn't felt right, even got to the point of frustrating and just didn't even want to look or play.
So my friend had a new USA standard and newer USA deluxe to try out. The standard has a Duncan pickup added in the middle and gotoh saddles and the deluxe was stock. Both very nice guitars in sunburst.
First I tried the deluxe and thought it was pretty nice , the neck was really smooth and comfortable with the compound radius , definitely noticed it right off the bat and played so nice up the neck plus the binding almost made my decision right there.
So then I tried the new standard with the broadcaster and twisted tele pups, as soon as I plugged it in and hit first chord I couldn't believe the difference. These pickups are outstanding, just pure open tele tone thats almost raw . made the others in the deluxe flat sounding. When I added the middle pup I was expecting a stratish tone but instead its like a thicker tele tone, very useful , almost like hitting a eq pedal to add some beef. Though I liked the neck on the deluxe just a tad better they were pretty close and both a little on the thin side than what I'm use to . the standard felt more solid and comfortable out of the two and balanced .
So after going back and forth I brought the standard home , with a good set up and the way it sounds I think I'll be happy.
Guitar searching is hard these days , even the same models don't feel or sound the same .
But I will say the new fender american guitars seem to have stepped up the quality from the previous years. The fret work and detail is flawless , guitars have a beautiful finish. Though I don't like the vintage style saddles on the new ones and would swap out for a smoother feel.
So just thought I would share and if your wondering about these there definitely worth checking out.
