After using the fender/d'andrea style jazz heavy's for decades...I am on the hunt for something....new/different to try.
Not a fan of the big wedgie (vpicks, ect) looking picks..."want to stick close to the standard tear drop as much as possible".
I am prepared to just stick and stay...shutup and play too!

I really like the Clayton Frost Bite picks. Good grip and the edges are still sharp even on the heavy picks which I like. They don't break and hardly wear out.

Try a Fender jazz medium
I never liked the heavy or large picks and find the medium to work for the stuff I play
I've been using the small jazz mediums for over 30 years

I lit on the Dunlop Delrin .96 years ago (the pink ones) and haven't used anything else since.

Jim Dunlop Ultex Jazz III. My favorite pick....by far. Or an English Sixpence....takes a bit of getting used to....but some really cool tones can be had... and no.... a dime is not the same.

Digs,
They make one bigger than the teardrop but smaller than the full-size one; maybe that would give you more force due to the increased mass.
Just a thought.

Jim Dunlop Ultex Jazz III. My favorite pick....by far. Same here. The small size is big plus, imo, for hybrid picking or just tucking the pick away and using fingers.

Did that one too (south70) for a stretch...ultimately I went to the smaller...just felt like it had less (clackiness)and a little quicker...I did check out the ultex III...I also looked at yes eric johnsons...people claiming just because they look alike doesn't mean a thing...believe that statement.

I hate to tell you guys, but when I started playing in 1964, picks were a dime a piece, but if you bought three it only cost you a quarter.
And they worked the same way they do now.

I've tried others, but for me nothing suits me quite like the old trusty Dunlop Tortex. I like the 1.0 mm thickness (blue). Dunlop Tortex picks are what feel most comfortable and familiar to me.

JAZZ III in red or whatever the local music store has on special - probably explains the number of Long & McQuade branded pics in my gig bag
More often than not, I do not use a pic as my playing is a terrible mish-mash of fingers and thumbs .....
cheers always,
Joel

I really like the Ultex standard picks. I've tried jazz-style picks, but I need the extra real estate as I'm not that coordinated and need room to accommodate my sloppy right hand technique.

I'd used Tortex picks for years, then a buddy gave me a Jazz III. Now I find the regular sized picks to be like using a dinner plate.
I've been using Vpicks for a couple of years now, first using the Euro, now since moving up to the Chick Pick.
Don't discard using a thicker pick, it seems more comfy to me. All the Vpicks aren't big fat units either, look into them, they're worth a try.

Ill give another look see...have not ventured yet, kind of got to go with what I know for now.Chick pick would be da one though.
Tortex just had a tone thing that I didn't care for...as I said been using the d'andrea heavys for a long time...definitely has to be.

I carry a few sizes BC sometimes I like the green Tortex pointed teardrops or want the snappier response of the regular sized yellow sharp tortex picks. When I play acoustic I use a thick Dunlop black pick or purple gator grip for more sound. I like mediums but usually end up dulling them or wearing them to nubs. I just ordered a gauge lighter of the small pointed teardrops in pink. I like the nimbleness of them in my hand and like mike mentioned they are easy to tuck in when finger picking.

Just ordered 3 different style picks because of this thread. Like i mentioned above, I rely on the old trusty Dunlop Tortex Standard 1.0 mm (blue) picks. I decided to pick up a few different picks. I got some Dunlop Tortex TIII 1.0 mm (blue), Dunlop Gator Grip .96 mm (purple), and some Dunlop Ultex Standard 1.0 mm picks. I never thought I'd have pick GAS. Thanks.

I now use Dunlop JazzIII,
about 5yrs ago I tried V-Picks which I like a lot and would prefer to use, but they start to wear out too fast at the point of contact. it's a cost thing for me not using V-picks

Ultex3s and v-picks. I don't use pointy v picks, so wear is not an issue

I've been using the yellow version (.8 mm or so?) for years. I have a couple fancy picks, but never really use them.
