I just received my first Dr Z amp this week. I bought the M12 combo with 12" greenback in Blonde. I was playing a DRRI, which was a little flat tonally, and boring. But this M12 sounds fantastic. I know it's advertised as such, but my pedals, in particular the JHS double barrel and Mojo Hand rook, sound amazing through it. When it arrived, one of the EL84's was very microphonic, loudly rattling and ringing. Don (I believe) from Dr Z repairs helped me via e-mail to get to the source of the problem and is sending me a fix via warranty. They were very helpful and cordial. I've owned the amp one week now, and already see a long relationship with this, and hopefully other Z' s. Really looking forward to trying different tubes and speakers over the next few months. I love the idea of having a cathode biased amp now.

Congratulations Chad, the M12 is a fine amp. Welcome to the world of Z... If you get the chance, be sure to try it with a 12' Gold or a Creamback "M". cheers

Welcome to Z's and the M12.
I found the (2x10) greenback to be a little early on break up for the volume I play live.... but then I found the ref fangs to be loud. Something in between would be perfect, but I'm really splitting hairs and likely to stay with the Red Fangs. I don't plan on gigging for a few months, but this little amp has enough high end (unlike my Z28) that I would not hesitate to put a brakelite on it.
As for the celestial golds... I just thought the mid dropped out to much with the M12. All subjective... btw - a 15" Altec 418 is a pretty good match as well.
Enjoy!

Congrats, Chad, on the new Z-amp and welcome to the forum! I'm also a big fan of the M12--I've got mine in a 1x12 combo format with a Scumback M75-PVC (one of the many "greenback" variants). Wonderful amp; mine also has displaced the venerable ol' '65 Deluxe Reverb RI, which is now sitting in the corner under its slipcover (so sad!).

Love mine. It's a head--red, of course!--and I'm running it through a 1x12/Gold. Sounds killer, but won't make your neighbors' heads explode!

congrats and welcome to the forum!
i run mine through a 1x12 with a gold and love it! if you really want to juice it up, try putting a good clean boost in front of the amp as well as whatever other pedals you are using. it can get really loud that way if more volume is useful to you..

Welcome, Chad and congrats on the M12.
I just set mine up with a 1x12 Creamback cab, a combination I'd not tried before. Sounds great, which is no surprise.
