I mean Monza used to be called Ghia gt right? So what changes were done to the Ghia design to qualify the Gt addition? Is the Monza a standard Ghia with something added, or to put it more precisely can you change something on the Monza and make it indentical to a Ghia, or it's a completely new design that happened to be named this way originally ?

hey hotmod I'll let someone much more knowledgeable than I chime in on circuitry differences and similarities between the Monza and Ghia, but I've owned both. Where the sibling idea (i.e. Ghia GT) comes from for me is that you can EQ them into similar zones as their tone stacks seem to work in much the same way. The way the develop gain is pretty different though and I can't think of tube or speaker changes that could turn one into the other. They actually make a great A/B rig. In my case I loved them both into various Scumback versions of the Greenback. I know of at least one of our Z-Talk brothers that has a tone of experience with both side by side: simpleton (great guy to boot!

When I bought my Monza it was because I absolutely love my Ghia and was hoping to have "lead" channel for the Ghia by using them in an ABY fashion. I also noticed that the Monza had previously been dubbed the Ghia GT and was really looking forward to getting the amp.
However When I finally got my Monza it wasn't the "Twin" of the Ghia but more gain....I don't know exactly how to say it but the Ghia seems to be a fuller tone with more rounded sound and the Monza seems a narrower tone with a sharper sound. Gain wise the Monza sorta picks up where the Ghia leaves off and goes into total fuzz with everything on 11. The GT reference is because the amp has so much gain and I think that the original idea was because Dr. Z had done the Mazerati and then the Mazerati GT. I have put a 5751 in the V2 position and that didn't match up the amps in a way that I would call the same.
I've come to realize that these amps, while a great pairing, are two different amps and if I wanted the same Ghia sound but MORE LOUDER for leads and stuff, that I should just buy another Ghia and turn it up louder.

Oh how I have thought of this....soooo many times. my stack could be Mazerati V1, Green Jewel Ghia, Mini Ghia ( either original or LE ).....That might just be my secret longing revealed right there.

One of the things I love about the Monza tone vs the Ghia is that it can get this fat, flubby low end, honkey, Fender Champ cranked, kinda old dirty Howlin Wolf tone kinda thing that is totally and utterly different than the Ghia could ever hope to imagine doing. I really love it and in stereo with the Ghia - they really fill each other in where the other isn't, yet they can be very similiar.
If you can get both you WILL have a BLAST for sure.

As I recall, the Monza was never really a Ghia GT - I think that they just threw the GT moniker on the amp and it stuck.

Doc mentioned the GA thing at Zfest but when it came to production it's aways been a Monza.
