Interesting. I emailed Pyramid and they said pure nickel. Oh well. No big deal either way. I love the way they sound. Now you got me wondering.

I'm curious as well in the differences between the Maximum Performance & Nickel Classics
and then, Hand Polished Nickel Classics.

Here is Toneman's response to my string inquiry. Not quite how I remembered it! I love getting old. Doug; Hi! All the plain strings and cores are silver plated German Steel on both the Nickel Classics and Maximum Performance sets. They always have been. Be glad to exchange the Max's for the Nickel Classics Regards, Don Toneman, Inc. www.tone-man.comAnyways, I think they are great strings. Pick your poison.

Ok I got response on my query. Simply, Maximum Performance have Hex wire for the wound strings. Nickel Classics have Round wire for the wound strings. Hand Polish, the wound strings are finely polished to give almost flat feel. Actual email response. The “Maximum Performance” sets use a Hex Core for the wound strings. They also have a silk wrap on the ball ends of both wound & plain. The “Nickel Classics” use a Round Core for the wound strings. The Hand Polished sets have wound strings that are slightly ground smooth and polished using an abrasive cloth (similar to emery paper). The result is a wound string that feels slicker/smoother than the regular pure nickel round wire wrap. It’s a good string for someone who likes the feel of say a flatwound string but want the sound/tone of a round wound string. I also have the new Monel Classics which use Monel wire(67% pure nickel, 23% copper & 10% Iron). Nobody has used Monel wire since about 1970 for electric strings. The Monel wire is slightly smoother than the pure nickel wire. I’ve been a Pyramid Dealer since 1996 and was the first official dealer in the U.S. when Encapsulight was distributing them. I deal direct with the factory and was just there in mid-Sept. for 9 days. Hope this info helps! Regards; Don Toneman, Inc. www.tone-man.com

I am interested in the Monel Classics. The warmth of Nickel, but with a little Midrange Growl and Attitude added in...hmmm

Indeed I must give the Monel's a test.
