I have been looking for a specific distortion effect for about 3 songs in our set list which the Therapy can't do with my general settings. I need a thick, chewy, fuzzy sort of tone, and I bought a Jim Dunlop Mini Fuzzface. Now, that is a VERY good pedal, but it just didn't quite cut it at the last gig - the same issue with all fuzzes I have ever played, they flub out when played through a hot amp. It's just too much for them, and especially on the bass strings, the sound just vanishes into a low end mush. So last night I cleared the decks, pulled out every pedal I own from every drawer / cupboard / box, and sat down to experiment........ boy am I glad I did! My old, long abandoned, Xotic AC just NAILED it! Since moving to the Z28, then Remedy, the AC has always been too dark, and under-driven for my needs, so I defaulted to the BB, and the SL, but with the Therapy that's a whole different ball game, especially with what I was looking for. Set just right, it gets a thick, chewy, almost fuzz-like tone, yet it is still articulate especially on the low strings, and cuts through the mix. It's all a balancing act between pedal settings and the V on the Therapy, but I like that. It feels like I'm playing the entire signal chain, not just the guitar. Anyway, there it is - I didn't need to spend my money on another pedal, however good it may be, I just needed to work with what I've got - someday I WILL believe myself on this and follow my own advice........... it just wasn't today

An Xotic AC has never left my board. I had 2 for awhile , sold one but kept one. Little box of magic IMHO. Cool you re-discovered it Pete!

Meeeee toooo, Pete! I've had a few OD pedals come and go since I bought my A/C pedal, but I can't seem to pull it off the board. It's just got THAT sound. Every time I think I've got a better pedal than the A/C, a simple A/B test proves me wrong. It ain't going nowhere!!!!

Pete-it's always good to rediscover arrows you already have in the quiver. We're all guilty of "chasing the tone" and justifying gear b/c of it when usually if we focus and work on it we can do it with the tools we already have on hand. Glad to hear it's just what you needed to compliment the Therapy. Hope you have a gig soon to test it in the field!

Heck yea! Those Xotic pedals just work don't they. Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Proboards Xotic make my Z-equivalent pedals - I may rotate through a few of them, but I never seem to leave them! They work phenomenally well with Z amps, IMHO. My EP has NEVER left any board I have used since I first bought it, regardless of which amp I play - it's that good! The rest have always been used in some rotation or other, and here I am back full circle to the first one I bought - the AC

And you may want to try their Wah, which sounds and feels excellent to me! I've been through EP Booster in the past (excellent pedal, but I do not need a clean boost, even a good one) and the BB (not so much love), but I only discovered the AC Booster a few days ago. I have to admit, this yellowish coat may have contributed to keep me away from it. But that's a mistake: great simple, easy to use, great sounding overdrive!

I know what you mean Pete. There are some pedals that won't get moved, just for that reason. Sometimes, those pedals are just the sound you're looking for (or missing). Makes a lot of sense to retain the special ones, even if they stray for a while.

After all, the way they look is totally irrelevant, and no-one at a gig will see them, or care what they look like in any way...... but if they SOUND good, then job done!

When you play it, color doesn't matter. But when you buy it, sometimes it does, even if it shouldn't!

The AC Booster is the only pedal that I've found to sound good with my Super Reverb...most are too dark or too bright...the AC is just right!

Pete: Could you please do me a favor? Could you please go over to the "Antidote" amp section and read the volume fix post then conduct the test with the AC as opposed to the RC as it was done as per the volume fix post? Probably bypass the Therapy's MV in order to test. I want to see if the AC is as transparent as the RC......pleaseeee Thanks

Xotic stuff is soooo good. I am in love with my little SP Compressor. I'm really lusting after a BB or AC now... This is NOT helping!! ?

The RC woks well in this regard through a clean amp, not a dirty one. It's a bit like turning your GV down, that's all. The AC has gain going on from the get go, so won't do this. If you're running your amp clean, and winding your GV back doesn't do it, then an RC this will help for sure

Is the Xotic AC modeled after a vox style amp or what is it similar to?

Is the Xotic AC modeled after a vox style amp or what is it similar to? I don't think so, despite the name. It's based on a tube screamer, with less mids and more control on bass and treble.

I have an AC Comp which has 3 different levels of compression. I used it for a while but took it off my board because there was enough overlap with my other pedal (I usually have 2 on the board) that it was redundant. However I realized that it was a great pedal and would do certain things nothing else would, at least that I own now, so I have kept it for future use. It's good to keep some things in reserve.
It may be a TS type circuit (I haven't looked inside) but it doesn't act like any TS pedal I've owned.
