Which new production EL84's do you recommend for higher headroom, but aren't too harsh when really pushed? I'm playing a Maz 38 NR. thanks

I'm looking on eurotubes.com and it looks like they will match your tubes according to your playing style for more break up or more headroom. I guess that'll do the trick for me.

You also could replace you V1 preamp tube with a 5751 and get more headroom that way as well.

I think that some of the folks around here have said that the TADEL84's are maybe a rounder tone which might lead to less of a 'harsh' sound at the other end.

I'll have to check them out too. I have these tubes in my Ghia and although they do seem to take a slight edge off the tone it is subtle and I really didn't notice any difference in headroom. I'd go along with trying a lower gain preamp tube and turning the guitar volume below 10 - it doesn't take much to make a difference.

I've not noticed any real difference in headroom between power tubes of the same kind. Differences yes. Just not in headroom.

Seems like it's probably more worthwhile experimenting with preamp tubes than power tubes
